How I am relearning to love myself at 40

At forty I got my world knocked on it’s ass. Now it’s all I can do to get up, get out and be a human. The easiest ways I’ve found have been to:

Give myself space to be not my best self… as the whole idea of what has happened is so large and epic that I can’t blame my body’s stress response.

Speak my truth. There is talking smack and talking truth and it took me a long time to get to the point where I do try my best with the truth side. I am who I al for all of my stories, I can’t let anyone keep my power:

Be exceptionally silly. I scream to songs in the car and take pictures like this with a 10 top of reasonably cute dudes who totally saw me do it nearby. What’s the worst thing that could happen?

Accept momentary defeat. Look… I’ll be honest a lot of the days the brain weasels get me and I feel sad and broken and cry but I let myself do it and I learn from each time what I don’t let myself know most of the time. #olderme #divorce #embracevulnerability #findingyourself #vulnerabilityissexy

... Read moreTurning 40 can be a pivotal moment in a person's life, often marked by significant transitions like relationship changes or personal revelations. It's essential to grant yourself permission to feel all the emotions that come with these changes. Giving yourself space to not always be 'your best self' fosters acceptance and helps in processing feelings like grief and sadness. Practicing authenticity by speaking your truth amplifies your sense of self-worth and ensures that you reclaim your personal narrative. Embracing silliness can lighten heavy moments; singing in the car or enjoying light-hearted activities can boost your mood and foster a sense of community with others. Importantly, allowing yourself to accept momentary defeats helps build resilience. Understanding that sadness and vulnerability are part of the human experience can lead to profound growth. Each stumble provides valuable insights that strengthen your self-identity. Embrace these experiences as pathways to self-love and ongoing personal evolution. Remember, it's never too late to find joy in life!
