Gaining weight changed how I see me

Vulnerability

🤍 My Story: Once I turned 21… I was very excited to see how I would take control of my life. I have accomplished alot of goals I set for myself however, I didn’t know I would change so much. I gained weight and didn’t know how much it would affect my confidence. Day to day and even thoughts.

🤍 How I Felt: I have always been able to work out and eat what I want. When I stopped working out… thats when the weight gain occurred.

🤍 My Takeaways:

💫- confidence is something that you create upon yourself. No advice, compliments from others, self talks will help you unless you believe it.

💫- you are always in control of your body, mind and spirit. Despite what you want, you have to be grateful in what place you are in life.

💫- you learn to find beauty in things that are not physical and you get to learn what you truly want. Be grateful for what you have.

💫- regardless of how different I look, I have time to change as long as I stick to that goal. Regardless of how long it will take, I learned the hard way that you have to mother yourself. You have to take care of you and your surroundings.

💫- Just because you don’t want to post the picture doesn’t mean the memories should be forgotten.

... Read moreIt's incredible how much our bodies can change, and often, it feels like it happens overnight, doesn't it? When I first noticed the numbers on the scale creeping up after 21, my immediate reaction was panic and a huge drop in confidence. I used to think, 'I've gained weight, and now I'm not good enough.' It's a common trap we fall into, comparing our current selves to a past version or an idealized image. But slowly, through a lot of self-reflection and candid moments, I started on this journey of relearning to love myself. It wasn't an overnight fix; it was a process, a kind of 'weight gain progress' in terms of mental and emotional growth, not just physical. Here are a few things that truly helped me shift my perspective and start accepting my changing body: First, acknowledging the feelings without judgment. It's okay to feel sad, frustrated, or even angry about body changes. Suppressing those emotions only makes them stronger. I allowed myself to feel them, but then I consciously chose not to dwell. I asked myself, 'What can I learn from this feeling?' instead of 'Why am I feeling this?' Second, reframing my definition of 'health' and 'beauty.' For so long, my idea of health was tied to a certain size or weight. I realized that true health encompasses mental well-being, energy levels, and how I feel in my body, not just how it looks. Beauty, I discovered, is a feeling of confidence and kindness that radiates from within. It's in the smile, the laughter, the way you treat others, and most importantly, the way you treat yourself. Third, **focusing on gratitude for what my body can do. Instead of lamenting what I perceived as flaws, I started appreciating my body for carrying me through life, for its strength, and for enabling me to experience the world. This simple shift was profoundly powerful. It helped me move from a place of self-criticism to one of appreciation. Fourth, curating my social media and environment. I started unfollowing accounts that made me feel inadequate and sought out diverse body-positive voices. Surrounding myself with people and content that celebrated all body types, not just one ideal, was crucial for my mental health. It showed me that there isn't just one way to be beautiful or healthy. Finally, understanding that bodies change, sometimes for 'no reason' that we can immediately pinpoint. Hormones, stress, aging, lifestyle shifts—there are so many factors. Instead of fighting against it, I learned to flow with it, to listen to my body's needs rather than imposing rigid rules based on outdated expectations. This acceptance is key to truly embracing weight gain as part of life's journey. This isn't to say every day is perfect; there are still moments of doubt. But the foundation I've built through relearning to love myself** allows me to navigate those moments with more resilience. Remember, your worth is never tied to your weight. Your journey is unique, and it's okay to be exactly where you are right now. Keep nurturing that inner confidence; it's the most beautiful thing you own.

Why You’re Bloated (Not Gaining Fat)
Stomach bloated? Feeling puffy? Clothes tighter at night? Before assuming weight gain, check this: Low fiber → slow digestion + stomach distention Hormones → luteal phase = water retention Sodium imbalance → fluid shifts, not fat gain Poor protein timing → blood sugar swings + digest

Not all great progress ends in crazy weight loss
This got a lot of hate when I first posted it one of my groups because my progress pic doesn’t end with weight loss… now reposting a year later, it didn’t end at all. When I first posted this a year ago, I posted because I was proud of my bulk, even when I was soo scared of gaining weight.
