What to do, need permission first 🚨

Microsoft is preparing to upgrade the security system of Windows 11 by implementing the "consent-first model," or a model that requires permission to be accessed or run, to the software on the system.

Similar to macOS, iOS and Android guidelines with notification windows to request camera, microphone or critical resource licenses. This change covers common applications, behind-the-scenes programs, as well as system-level drivers.

Windows is known for its openness. Users can install and run programs relatively freely, with only an Administrator Request (UAC) window at certain strokes, such as when installing or running certain programs. Once pressed confirmed, the program is often granted extensive permissions, which may allow some software to modify system values, install additional add-ons, or adjust Windows behavior without the user's awareness, becoming a long-term security risk.

To reduce this problem, Microsoft is developing Windows Baseline Security Mode, which turns on runtime integrity safeguards as a default. Only apps, services, and drivers with valid digital signatures and reliability standards will work. If not, the system will block them unless the user or administrator adds them to the authorization list.

There is also a User Transparency and Consent concept that will add notifications when an app tries to access a key resource; users can choose to allow, reject, or change their settings later.

Microsoft reiterated that this adjustment did not turn Windows into a closed system, but rather a new balance between security and flexibility, with all features under test, and no official activation date has been announced.
