According to international media reports, the guidelines began in 2018 under the "Education Informatization 2.0" policy of the Chinese Ministry of Education, which initially emphasized the use of Face Recognition for school and dormitory entry before developing a full classroom AI system.

Many schools in China are now starting to install intelligent cameras inside classrooms, to be used to analyze student behavior such as looking at boards, stooping periods, facial expressions, and participation in classes, with these data processed through the school's central analytical system.

In addition, the system can summarize key data called "4 Rates in the Classroom" - attendance rates, board-looking rates, front-row ride rates, and class participation rates - to help teachers and administrations track instructional performance more easily.

China, meanwhile, has also expanded the use of AI to national exams like Gaokao, or university entrance exams, with the use of intelligent monitoring systems in combination with security scanning doors and biometric identity verification systems to detect abnormal behavior and prevent corruption in exams.

However, despite China's serious push for AI technology in the education sector, some of the figures that have been shared on social media, such as the proportion of schools already in use by 2030, have no official confirmation data from government documents at this time, allowing the issue to continue to be debated in terms of efficiency, privacy, and surveillance of students through broader AI technology.
