Low Carb Fried Cabbage and Sausage
Low carb fried cabbage and sausage is so easy to make and it’s also great for meal prep. This is one of the first dishes I made when I started low carb and I make this over and over again because of how simple and filling it is. Also, I think cabbage is underrated.. if you cook it right it’s absolutely delicious. Recipe below:
- 1 pack of smoked sausage (12 oz. I used all beef smoked sausage)
- 1 head of cabbage (chopped)
- 1 half of a yellow onion (diced)
- 1.5 tbsp of Cajun all purpose seasoning
- 1 tsp of Dash table seasoning
Cut the smoked sausage into 1/2 inch thick slices. Brown the sausage in some avocado oil over medium high heat until golden brown on both sides. Remove from pan and set aside. To the same pan add the chopped cabbage and sauté it for about 3 minutes. Then cover with a lid for another 5 minutes over medium heat. The cabbage should start to get tender. Add spices and make sure all the cabbage is well seasoned. Remove cooked cabbage from the pan and set aside. Next, add a little bit of oil to the pan if it’s dry and sauté the diced onions. Cook the onions until translucent. Add the cooked cabbage and sausage back to the pan with the onions, combine, and enjoy! #weightloss #lowcarbliving #insulinresistance #healthy #dinner

If you want to boost the fat content, try cooking the sausage in a bit of bacon grease or adding a pat of butter to the cabbage as it sautés. A sprinkle of red pepper flakes can add a nice kick, and sometimes I'll stir in a handful of shredded cheddar cheese at the very end for an extra creamy, cheesy twist. Don't be afraid to experiment with different types of sausages too – just make sure they're low in sugar and fillers. And for those of us who live a busy life, the meal prep aspect of this low carb dinner is a game-changer. I often make a double batch on Sunday, portion it out, and have ready-to-go keto dinners for a few days. It reheats beautifully, making weekdays so much smoother. Knowing I have a delicious, compliant meal waiting for me helps me avoid making unhealthy choices when I'm tired and hungry. If you're looking for other quick concepts for keto recipes for dinner, think about simple skillet meals.
