allergy season is usually triggering for pelvic floor symptoms like leakage & heaviness so here’s a couple tips to lessen the stress on your bodyyy🤍
Allergy season often intensifies pelvic floor issues such as bladder leakage and pelvic heaviness, especially for those recovering postpartum or managing incontinence and prolapse. From my experience, adopting mindful coughing and sneezing habits can significantly reduce the strain on your pelvic floor. One technique I’ve found helpful is to avoid holding in your cough or sneeze. Although it’s natural to try to suppress these to be discreet, doing so actually increases downward pressure on the pelvic floor. Instead, cover your nose and mouth as usual, but allow the sneeze or cough to release more naturally in a controlled way. This reduces the amount of pressure directed downward. Another tip is to avoid 'crunching' your upper abdominal muscles when you cough or sneeze. Tightening the upper abs can push more force onto your pelvic floor, worsening symptoms. Instead, try to keep your rib cage lifted and hinge slightly from your pelvis, as if taking a bow. This posture helps your diaphragm engage more effectively and lessens the downward force exerted on the pelvic floor. Incorporating these simple adjustments into your daily routine can make a big difference in managing pelvic heaviness and leakage during high allergy periods. Along with pelvic floor physical therapy exercises, these techniques provide effective, non-invasive support to protect your pelvic health. Remember, small mindful changes in movement often add up to meaningful symptom relief over time.
