Life lately when I’m not working

It’s hard for me to relax and enjoy my life as a business owner. I’ve possibly inherited this trait from my father. I am trying to learn, how to exist enjoyably without doing something for my clients/business/marketing/education. Best I can do currently is try to find joy in the meals I make myself and have a nice view while I am working. And I really love working out. I will never understand how people don’t love it. I love it, it keeps me sane, and gives me a sense of delayed gratification that as an adhd person I need. And going through times when I could not even do yoga due to being injured is my worst nightmare (and I still have PTSD from it) and it’s made me insanely more grateful for having the capacity to work on my fitness.

My days often blur between client meetings, marketing efforts, and the constant hum of staying productive. What has helped me immensely is embracing the small moments that bring joy, like preparing a nourishing meal while enjoying a beautiful view or dedicating time to physical exercise. Working out is more than just physical activity for me—it’s a mental anchor. Especially when managing ADHD, exercise provides essential structure and delayed gratification that help maintain balance and focus. The frustration of past injuries, which kept me from activities like yoga I cherish deeply, remains raw. Yet, this experience created a newfound appreciation for my current ability to rebuild strength, particularly focusing on upper body and legs during recovery. Incorporating creative outlets, such as sketching Celtic knots or trying new cultural experiences, has also expanded my way of disconnecting from the constant work mindset. These moments feed my spirit and allow me to recharge in a meaningful way. Even small rituals, like enjoying a lavender lemon curd milkshake or exploring a local Irish festival, contribute to a richer life when off the clock. For fellow entrepreneurs and ADHD individuals striving for work-life harmony, it’s vital to recognize your limits and celebrate the progress made in both fitness and leisure. Finding gratitude in what your body and mind can do, despite setbacks, transforms these routines from chores into cherished habits. Ultimately, learning to exist enjoyably without constant productivity fosters resilience and a healthier relationship with success and self-care.
