Ramadan Day 9 ✨🌙 Homemade Bagels part 1

There’s something special about baking them from scratch, and I can’t wait to tell you all about it. The process is surprisingly simple and incredibly rewarding. From mixing the dough to boiling and baking, each step brings a delightful aroma that fills the kitchen. Plus, you can customize them with your favorite toppings!

They taste amazing fresh out of the oven, warm and chewy—perfect for breakfast or a snack.

——Dough Ingredients——

1 1/2 cups warm water

1 tablespoon sugar

2 teaspoons active dry yeast

4 cups flour

2 teaspoons salt

Cooking spray or olive oil for the bowl

——Water Bath——

8 cups water

1/4 cup baking soda

2 tablespoons honey

——For Baking——

1 egg white +1 teaspoon water for brushing on top of bagels before baking

Everything bagel seasoning for Topping

Kosher salt for Topping

1. In a mixing bowl, mix together warm water, sugar and yeast. Cover and let proof for 5 minutes or until foamy.

2. To the yeast mixture add in the flour and salt. Mix on medium-low speed for 5 to 7 minutes, until the dough is well-formed around the hook. If the dough is very dry after 5 minutes, add 1 more tablespoon water.

3. Transfer the dough to a clean work surface and knead 2 to 3 minutes, until smooth then form into a ball. Spray the bowl with cooking spray and Place dough back in. Cover with plastic wrap and set aside in a warm spot for 1 hour or until the dough has risen and doubled in size.

4. Turn the dough out onto a clean, work surface and divide into 8 pieces. Form each piece into a ball by rolling on the countertop or in hand with a cupped hand.

5. Poke a hole through the center of each dough ball with your finger, then gently stretch the center by twirling it around your fingers until the hole is 1 inch in diameter. Once all formed cover again with a clean kitchen towel and let rest for 20 more minutes.

6. Preheat oven 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

7. Boil the Bagels— Place 8 cups water, 1/4 cup baking soda, and 2 tablespoons honey in a large pot. Bring to a simmer over high heat. Reduce the heat to medium to maintain a gentle simmer.

8. Carefully transfer 5 of the bagels into the simmering water. Simmer for 3 minutes. Flip the bagels and simmer for 2 minutes more. Remove the bagels from the water bath, and place onto the baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining bagels, making sure the water comes back up to a simmer between each batch.

9. Whisk egg whites and water together, brush each bagel with the egg wash, sprinkle the top with everything bagel seasoning or kosher salt or any toppings you want.

10. Bake for 20-25 minutes until evenly golden brown all around and enjoy!!!
