C-Section Awareness Month

I had an emergency C-section a few weeks ago and here’s my thoughts.

People like to say a C-section is the easy way out. And it definitely isn’t. While I was in labor and trying to push, my baby’s heart rate dropped. Really low. For too long.

At that point a C-section was the only option. It wasn’t easy. It was the farthest thing from easy. It was, however, the safest option for me and my baby.

That’s how I’m choosing to think about it. A C-section isn’t the easy way out. Sometimes it’s the safest way out.

My heart goes out to all other moms who have had a C-section, whether it was elective or emergent. You are amazing!🩷

... Read moreHaving gone through an emergency C-section myself, I understand the mix of emotions that come with it — from fear and uncertainty to relief and gratitude. Many people unfairly believe that a C-section is just an easier alternative to natural birth, but the reality couldn’t be further from the truth. When complications arise, such as a drop in the baby’s heart rate, a C-section can become the necessary medical intervention to protect both lives. Recovery after an emergency C-section can be challenging. The process involves healing from major surgery while adjusting to the demands of a newborn. It’s important to listen to your body and allow yourself ample time to rest. Support from family and healthcare providers is crucial during this period. Physically, you might experience pain around the incision site, fatigue, and emotional ups and downs. Emotionally, it can sometimes feel disheartening if your birth plan didn’t go as expected, but recognizing that this route was the safest way out can bring significant peace of mind. One key aspect I’ve learned is the importance of community. Finding groups like #csectionmama or participating in C-Section Awareness Month events helps create a space to share stories and combat stigma. This month emphasizes education and support for moms who have had C-sections, elective or emergency, acknowledging the strength it takes to go through such an experience. If you’re approaching a C-section or recovering from one, remember you are not alone. Your strength and courage are undeniable. Whether your journey was planned or unexpected, every mom choosing this path plays a vital role in the beautiful story of bringing new life into the world.

C-section are definitely not the easy way out. I had one 17 yrs ago and it took me almost 6 weeks to bounce back. personally i think the people that say it’s the easy way out are the ones that have either never had a baby at all or had a natural birth. i know for me sneezing, coughing, anything like that was torture for the first few weeks.

No reason at all to explain anything to us. They had to do what they had to do! 💯 Same happened to me with my 1st Son in 1983! After being induced and in labor for 38 hours never dilating to 5! He went into stress, had a bowel movement inside the womb and inhaled it into his lungs!🫁 Emergency C-Section was done, he weighed in at 10 lbs 4 oz & they worked for an hour on him cleaning it out of him! He was blue & it was scary but I’m thankful they did it when they did! My Son is now 43, happily married & has given us 3 grandkids! Son #2 came 12 years later and I had a planned C-Section scheduled for August 15th 1994 but my water broke on August 3rd and he was born perfectly healthy & weighing in at 8 lbs even! It IS NOT the easy way out! Especially if it’s an Emergency! Each of us is unique & think we can just deliver a baby normally like most but that’s not always the case! 🤷‍♀️ However, I DO NOT AGREE if a Doctor allows a woman to have a C-Section just because! I have an extremely tipped pelvis which prevented my babies from even dropping like they normally do! So say what you want but it IS NOT the easy way out! Try nursing a huge 10 lb baby when you have a 6 inch incision below your stomach! Congratulations on your new baby! 🥳 I’m glad everything worked out fine for you! 👍🏼😁🥰
