💭 A Lesson in Patience & Communication 🤍
So today I learned a real parenting lesson.
I came home, told my kids (as usual) to take off their coats and shoes. I headed to the kitchen to start dinner. My daughter comes down with one shoe still on and her coat halfway off saying, “Mommy, help.”
So I help her take the other shoe off — and she starts crying 😩
At first, I walked away frustrated. But then it hit me… she asked for help and cried because I didn’t help her the way she needed.
She didn’t want me to take her shoe off — she wanted me to tie it.
Now how was I supposed to know that? 🤷🏾♀️
By asking.
That’s when it clicked — most battles, even the small ones, start with miscommunication.
So I went back, apologized, and asked if she wanted me to tie her shoe.
She said yes.
Then I asked for a hug, told her I love her, and asked if she was still upset. She said no 🥹💞
I reminded her to tell me exactly what she needs next time — and made a mental note that if she doesn’t, I’ll ask.
I’m proud of myself because the old me would’ve stayed frustrated and walked away.
But something shifted in that moment — and I’m so glad it did. 🌱
