Progesterone is one of the most important pregnancy hormones and it helped me get & stay pregnant.
But my progesterone levels weren’t always good.
It took me years to conceive and one of the problems I had was low progesterone every cycle.
My fertility doctor said the problem was my age. He said I had low progesterone because of perimenopause.
What he didn’t tell me is that stress steals progesterone. My age wasn’t actually the problem. My nervous system was.
I fixed my nervous system problem and guess what, my progesterone levels moved into the optimal ranges.
So remember ladies, stress steals progesterone. Your body uses the same building blocks to make the stress hormone cortisol and progesterone.
And when you’re stressed, cortisol wins every time!
Low progesterone levels = harder to conceive and stay pregnant.

During my fertility journey, I realized that many women struggle silently with low progesterone, especially as they approach their 40s. While age is often blamed, I learned that stress plays a significant role in depleting progesterone. The body prioritizes cortisol production when stressed because it shares the same precursor hormone as progesterone. This means chronic stress can directly reduce progesterone levels, making conception and maintaining pregnancy much harder. I started incorporating stress management techniques such as mindfulness meditation, gentle yoga, and regular breathing exercises to calm my nervous system. These helped lower my cortisol levels, which in turn allowed my progesterone levels to improve. Also, simple lifestyle changes like improving sleep quality, moderating caffeine intake, and ensuring a balanced diet rich in essential nutrients (like magnesium and vitamin B6) supported my hormonal balance. Another key insight was tracking my menstrual cycle closely to understand my body's natural rhythms. Using basal body temperature charts and ovulation prediction kits helped me identify when my progesterone was optimal and when interventions were needed. If you suspect low progesterone, consider consulting with a healthcare provider to explore testing options and individualized treatments. Remember, it’s not just about hormonal supplements; nurturing your emotional and physical well-being is vital. Managing stress isn't always easy, but small consistent efforts can make a big difference in improving your progesterone levels and ultimately enhancing fertility success.
