So, my journey to healthy weight gain had to take a different path, and I'm here to tell you, it's totally possible to reach your goals without a single scoop of powder. First off, let's talk about those queries floating around: are protein shakes worth it? And do specific ones like Premier Protein shakes make you gain weight? From my experience, protein shakes can be convenient for some, acting as a quick calorie and protein boost. But are they essential? Absolutely not. For me, they weren't worth the discomfort or the struggle to drink them. As for weight gain, yes, any food or drink that puts you in a calorie surplus will contribute to weight gain, and protein shakes are highly caloric. So, if you're drinking them in addition to your regular meals, you'll likely gain weight. Conversely, if you're worried about unwanted weight gain, it's important to monitor your overall calorie intake. The point is, they're not magic, and you can achieve the same caloric surplus through whole foods. My breakthrough came when I stopped trying to force myself to like shakes and started focusing on real, delicious food. The key for me was incorporating more frequent, nutrient-dense meals. Instead of just three big meals, I found success with either 2 BIG servings a day plus a few hearty snacks, or even better, 3 small servings a day making sure each one packed a punch. Think of it as 'sneaking' in extra calories throughout your day without feeling overwhelmed. Here are some practical strategies I used to boost my calorie intake naturally: Healthy Fats are Your Friend: Don't shy away from healthy fats. Adding a tablespoon of olive oil to your pasta, avocado to your toast, or a handful of nuts to your yogurt can dramatically increase calories without adding much volume. Nut butters (peanut, almond, cashew) are fantastic for this โ€“ spread them generously on fruit, crackers, or mix into oatmeal. Calorie-Dense Snacks: Instead of low-calorie options, opt for full-fat dairy (Greek yogurt, cottage cheese), trail mix, dried fruits, or cheese and crackers. These provide sustained energy and a good calorie boost between meals. **Liquid Calories (The Right Way): If you're avoiding protein shakes, you can still use beverages to your advantage.
