Clean Period Product Swaps ✨

The ingredients in your menstrual products matter! Tampons that are not 100% organic cotton, fragrance free, synthetic fiber free, or chemical free can throw off your pH balance!🥺

These are swaps I recommend making:

Tampax & L. Tampons ➡️ Cora & Honey Pot

Why: Tampax tampons contain synthetic fibers like polyester and polyurethane which plastic. They also don’t disclose where in the tampon those ingredients are located but it’s most likely the security shield. The security shield is the part that’s actually in contact with your skin!

Micro plastics in the tampons can be absorbed from the vagina directly into the blood stream. That’s why I try to go with very minimal ingredients in tampons!!

L. Tampons are owned also by Tampax and also contain polyester! They do contain organic cotton but are not 100% organic cotton because they contain polyester. Titanium dioxide is also on the label which is an unnecessary ingredient.

➡️ swap to brands like Cora, Lola, Honey Pot, Rael

Why: these brands are all 100% organic cotton core & security veil! Plus disclose where the ingredients are in the product.

Note Cora used to contain polyester/polyethylene but I just noticed they are now 100% organic cotton!🥹

Always Pads ➡️ Honey Pot

Why: Always products contain some red flag ingredients! Polyethylene, polyester, polypropylene aka plastics and they don’t disclose where in the product they’re used! Also contains potential allergens like dyes and ammonia salts.

Personally I’m not comfortable with those ingredients for the same reason as tampons — I don’t want those ingredients touching my vulva skin which is very sensitive.

➡️ swap to Honey Pot pads

Why: the top sheet is 100% organic cotton! That’s the part in contact with your skin 🫶🏻 they disclose where polyester and polyurethane are used which is the backing adhesive. These pads also have soothing essential oils on the top sheet which are soothing & cooling.

Remember to read the labels on your menstrual products! Knowledge is power!✨

what brands do you like?🤍

... Read moreHey everyone! Building on my initial thoughts about clean period product swaps, I wanted to dive a little deeper into why these choices truly matter and offer more insights, especially since many of you are curious about specific brands like Cora and Honey Pot. It's not just about what you put in your body, but what touches your most sensitive areas! For me, figuring out what was truly 'clean' was a journey, and I’m still learning! When it comes to Cora tampons and Honey Pot tampons, both are fantastic choices for their commitment to organic cotton. From my experience, Cora feels very reliable and their commitment to 100% organic cotton, even for their security veil, is a huge plus. I appreciate that they've evolved to meet consumer demands for truly clean products. Their packaging is also quite discreet and convenient. Now, Honey Pot pads and tampons have a special place in my heart too. While Cora focuses on the pure cotton aspect, Honey Pot often incorporates plant-derived materials and sometimes soothing essential oils on their top sheets (for pads). This can be a game-changer if you experience discomfort or irritation, as those cooling sensations can be really comforting. It's worth noting that while their top sheet is 100% organic cotton, understanding where other materials like polyethylene and polyurethane are used (e.g., in the backing adhesive) is key, and Honey Pot is transparent about that. For me, the feeling of those natural ingredients against my skin makes a difference. If you're someone who experiences a lot of irritation, Honey Pot's sensitive skin line (which I've seen mentioned in some of their product descriptions) might be worth exploring further. Beyond just Cora and Honey Pot, the core reason for my switch to 100% organic cotton period products is really about minimizing exposure to unnecessary chemicals. Think about it: our vaginal skin is incredibly permeable. The idea of microplastics, dyes, and synthetic fibers being in constant contact (or even absorbed into the bloodstream, as some studies suggest) was enough to make me rethink everything. Conventional brands often use ingredients like titanium dioxide, which might make products look whiter but serves no health benefit and adds another chemical to the mix. It's not about fear-mongering, but simply about informed choices for our long-term health and pH balance. My pH balance has definitely felt more stable since I made the switch, and I experience less irritation overall. For a holistic approach to period care, it's not just about what you use during your cycle. I've found incorporating natural remedies can also be helpful. For example, some people swear by raspberry leaf tea for soothing cramps – it's something I've explored after seeing it in some wellness product lines (like the raspberry leaf product I saw similar to the one in the shopping basket images!). While not a direct product swap, it's part of a broader commitment to nurturing your body through your cycle. If you're ready to go even further down the 'clean' path, exploring options like menstrual cups or reusable cloth pads can be amazing ways to reduce waste and ensure you're only using materials you trust. It's a bigger upfront investment but can save money and be even gentler on your body in the long run. Making the switch doesn't have to be overwhelming. Start small! Maybe try one type of product first, like organic cotton tampons, and see how your body reacts. Read labels diligently – 'organic cotton' on the box doesn't always mean 100% organic cotton in the core or security veil. Look for certifications and transparency. Your body will thank you for being an informed consumer when it comes to period products brands.

My gyno Dr actually told me that most of the Honey Pot Co items are really bad for your vagina and a lot of women complain abt pain, itching, etc. Obv everyone’s bodies are different but if you’re a lot more sensitive than “normal,” then personally, I wouldn’t recommend that company :)
