Getting Over Being Homesick in College

Some people have it harder than others to adjust to college life. My top recommendations to making college feel like a second home are to NOT GO HOME on the weekends. You’ll miss so many opportunities to hang out with people and create your own community. Involving yourself in clubs and school events is also an amazing way to meet people with shared interests!

... Read moreFeeling homesick when starting college is completely normal, but managing it early can transform your experience significantly. One key approach is to limit trips home on weekends, as staying on campus encourages you to seize more social opportunities and strengthens your sense of belonging. Attending school events is a powerful way to meet hundreds of fellow students who are also eager to make connections. These gatherings not only introduce you to new friends but also immerse you in your campus culture. Joining clubs based on your interests can be incredibly rewarding. Clubs often host regular meetings, social events, and projects that help build lasting friendships. Whether it's sports, arts, academics, or volunteering, engaging with like-minded peers facilitates natural bonding and uplifts your college experience. Additionally, consider creating a routine involving study groups, campus cafes, or library visits where you can encounter familiar faces. These consistent interactions foster trust and invite more personal connections. Remember, overcoming homesickness is about creating a sense of home within your new environment. With active involvement and openness, your college journey will quickly evolve from challenging to fulfilling.
