🤍Postpartum Depression 🌸

Postpartum depression rears its ugly head again.

I hate that I’m back here, in this place of utter chaos. Because I’d been doing so well managing my triggers & keeping myself ticking over. But for weeks now I’ve been really struggling. I’ve had so many more bad days than good, and it got to the point where I recognised that this wasn’t going to go away by itself. So I did the hardest but bravest thing and asked for help.

I’m going to keep it as real and honest as possible when it comes to this next part of my journey on here, because I know there are so many who are going through similar if not the same, or have experienced postpartum depression and anxiety before. It’s not an easy thing to talk about and for a very long time I felt so ashamed of myself… because how could I be depressed? What would others think of me? Would people think I’m a bad mum if they knew?

The thing is though, mental illnesses don’t discriminate. I didn’t choose to be one to suffer with postpartum depression and anxiety, but I do, and that’s okay. It’s not my fault, and it doesn’t reflect on who I am as a mother or woman - and that goes for you too!

Admitting you need help and asking for help is the BRAVEST thing you’ll ever do. It’s okay to be scared and it’s okay to feel confused, sad, angry, or whatever else you may be feeling. I feel all of those things too. But I promise you, you aren’t alone.

We’ve got this ❤️‍🩹🩶

... Read morePostpartum depression (PPD) is a serious condition affecting many new mothers, and it’s essential to recognize its signs. Symptoms may include persistent sadness, anxiety, and mood swings that can interfere with daily life. It’s critical to understand that PPD is not a personal failure; it arises from complex factors including hormonal changes, personal history, and stress factors related to childbirth. Speaking about one's struggles, as this author does, can help break the stigma surrounding mental health issues. Many women feel isolated and ashamed, fearing judgment from others. However, reaching out for help, whether through therapy, support groups, or loved ones, can be a life-changing step toward recovery. Furthermore, resources are abundant for individuals dealing with PPD. Various organizations offer support, and understanding one's condition can empower mothers to make informed choices about treatment. Whether considering medication or therapy, personalized approaches lead to better outcomes. It's essential to cultivate a supportive community, normalizing discussions around mental health, especially in the postpartum period. Sharing experiences and tips can create a network of support—not only for women suffering from PPD but also for their families, who often seek to provide help but may be unsure how to do so. Recognizing that PPD is common among new parents helps create empathy and a collective effort towards mental wellness, paving the way for healing and fostering a nurturing environment for both the mother and the child.
