Recipe | 🇮🇹Quick Italian Meatballs🍝
Do you agree that meatballs are one of the easiest to make at home and the most filling and satisfying food you can have? They are perfect to be enjoyed just by themself and to go with pasta or rice! 🤤 My favorite meatball recipe is the one from the Joy of Cooking cookbook. However, I made them so many times that I adapted my modifications in it to simplify the process. Here’s how I made these tasty meatballs👇
🔸You’ll need (for 18-20 meatballs):
1 lb ground beef
2-3 garlic cloves, minced
1 cup fresh parsley, chopped OR 2 tablespoons dried parsley
1/2 onion, chopped
1/2 cup plain bread crumbs
1/2 cup grated Parmesan
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 egg
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
About 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (you may need more)
Cooking oil
20-24 oz pasta sauce
🔸You’ll do:
1. In a large bowl, add the first 11 ingredients (from ground beef to dried oregano), and gently mix everything until they are all combined.
2. Preheat the oven to 375°F. In a shallow dish or a bowl, add the all-purpose flour. Use a spoon or your hand to scoop the ground beef and shape it into a small ball size, roll it in the all-purpose flour to give it a thin coat, and place it on a lined baking sheet. Repeat with the rest of the ground beef.
3. Bake the meatballs at 375°F for about 15 minutes or until their internal temperature reaches 160°F.
4. Heat a pan over medium heat and add enough cooking oil to cover the bottom. Once the pan and the oil are hot, add the meatballs to the pan, and pour the pasta sauce in. Cook for another few minutes or until the pasta sauce is hot. (Optional) Add some fresh parsley on top.
Enjoy!😋

So, you've got the basics down for delicious homemade Italian meatballs, right? I've made these countless times, and over time, I've picked up a few extra tricks and serving ideas that really take them to the next level. If you're like me, you love making things from scratch, and these tips will make your homemade meatballs even more satisfying! One of the biggest secrets to truly tender meatballs? Don't overmix! Gently combine your ingredients until just blended. I also sometimes soak my breadcrumbs in a little milk or water for a few minutes before adding them – it makes them super moist and helps bind everything without making them tough. Another great tip for juicy homemade Italian meatballs is to ensure your ground beef isn't too lean; a little fat adds a lot of flavor and keeps them from drying out in the oven. While my recipe uses parsley and oregano, sometimes I love to switch it up! For a true 'Italian style' meatball, adding a tablespoon of fresh chopped basil to the mix, along with the parsley, gives them a wonderful aromatic kick. You can also play with the meat itself – a 50/50 mix of ground beef and ground pork makes them incredibly juicy. For a little extra richness, I've even folded in a spoonful of ricotta cheese into the mixture before rolling – pure magic! This adds an incredible tenderness and a slight creaminess that's just divine. Now, about that 'best meatball sauce' – while any good store-bought pasta sauce works wonders, sometimes I crave something a bit different. For a super quick upgrade, sauté some extra garlic and a pinch of red pepper flakes in olive oil before adding your jarred sauce. Or, if I have time, a simple homemade marinara with crushed tomatoes, garlic, and basil simmered for an hour is unbeatable. For something creamier, try stirring a dollop of cream cheese or heavy cream into your tomato sauce at the very end. And don't forget the cheese! A generous sprinkle of fresh Parmesan or Pecorino Romano on top is a must, especially when they're fresh out of the oven and simmering in that delicious sauce. Beyond classic spaghetti and meatballs, these homemade Italian meatballs are so versatile! I love serving them as appetizers on toothpicks, perhaps with a sweet and sour glaze for a party, or simply with a sprinkle of fresh herbs. They also make fantastic meatball subs – just toast a hoagie roll with some provolone, pile on the saucy meatballs, and melt that cheese until bubbly. Or, for a lighter meal, they're great alongside a big green salad, or even with a scoop of creamy polenta or mashed potatoes instead of pasta. Sometimes I just eat them straight from the pan with a fork, because they're that good! And if you want to be extra prepared, these homemade Italian meatballs freeze beautifully. I often make a double batch, bake them, and then let them cool completely before freezing them on a baking sheet. Once solid, transfer them to a freezer-safe bag. Then, you can just pull out what you need and simmer them directly in your favorite sauce for a super quick weeknight meal. It's a lifesaver for busy days!
