The last 4 movies I’ve watched

2024/9/10 Edited to

... Read moreLately, I’ve been on a fantastic movie-watching spree, diving deep into the delightful world of horror-comedy! There’s something truly special about films that can make you both jump and laugh, perfectly blending the spooky with the silly. If you’re like me and often search for ‘comedy ghost movies’ or just great horror-comedies, then you’re in for a treat with some of my recent watches, which I often track on Letterboxd! My latest movie log includes a mix of new and classic gems. Kicking things off was the highly anticipated *Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024)*. This sequel absolutely delivered as a fantastic modern 'comedy ghost movie,' bringing back all the quirky humor, iconic characters, and supernatural fun that made the original so beloved. It was a blast, and definitely earned its high star ratings! Then, I revisited two 1960s classics. *The Comedy of Terrors (1963)*, starring Vincent Price and Boris Karloff, is a hilarious, dark comedy about undertakers resorting to desperate measures. It’s a quintessential 'comedy of terrors,' showcasing how vintage horror could be wonderfully witty and spooky. Next was *The Raven (1963)*, another Price and Karloff vehicle (with Peter Lorre and Jack Nicholson!). While not strictly a 'comedy ghost movie,' it’s a brilliant horror-comedy based on Poe, filled with magical duels and comedic rivalries – a testament to infusing horror with genuine laughs. Finally, I watched *House of the Long Shadows (1983)*, a delightful ensemble piece with horror icons Price, Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, and John Carradine. This film perfectly captures the essence of a classic haunted house mystery but injects it with a healthy dose of comedy. It’s got that spooky manor vibe and unexpected twists that fans of 'comedy ghost movies' will appreciate, watching these legends play off each other in such a fun way. What makes these films so appealing? It’s the ingenious way they balance fear with humor. They allow us to confront the supernatural in a way that feels less threatening and more entertaining. It’s a fantastic genre for exploring spooky themes, creating memorable characters, and providing clever commentary. If these picks have you craving more, or you're specifically searching for other 'comedy ghost movies,' here are a few more recommendations from my own personal watch list: Shaun of the Dead: A modern classic blending zombie horror and sharp British wit. What We Do in the Shadows (film & TV series): Mockumentary masterpiece about vampire roommates. Ghostbusters (1984): The original classic that set the standard for supernatural comedy. Tucker & Dale vs. Evil: A brilliant horror-comedy that cleverly subverts slasher film tropes. Young Frankenstein: Mel Brooks’ iconic spoof of classic horror. I always love discovering new films in this genre. What 'comedy ghost movies' or horror-comedies have you watched recently? Share your favorites!
