I’m completely aware that we’ve all been dealt different cards. I know we all walk different paths and take on different roles in life. But at the end of the day, we can’t keep using what we’ve been through as an excuse to self-destruct—or worse, to destroy the people around us. Trauma is real, pain is real, but so is choice. We all have a choice to be better, to do better, to break the cycle, and to build something different. At the end of it all, your past may explain you—but it doesn’t have to define you.

God gives us the choice to rise above it, to heal, and to break the cycle. What the enemy meant for destruction, God can turn into testimony. Your story doesn’t have to end in pain—it can end in freedom, in peace, and in purpose.

... Read moreMany people find that sobriety often faces more judgment than destructive behaviors that seem to be celebrated in society. This paradox can be disheartening for those striving to overcome trauma and addiction. It's important to recognize that choosing sobriety is a courageous act of self-love and strength, not weakness. Trauma impacts us all differently, but it doesn't have to dictate our future. Breaking the cycle begins with acknowledging the pain without using it as an excuse for self-destructive or harmful behavior toward others. Healing is a process that requires intentional choices every day, supported by faith, community, or professional help. Turning what was meant for destruction into a testimony is a powerful transformation. It shows that even the deepest wounds can lead to freedom and purpose. Many have found peace in embracing their story’s full complexity—that the past may explain where we come from but does not have to define who we become. Supporting those who choose sobriety instead of destructive paths can foster a more compassionate and understanding community. After all, when we uplift one another in struggle and healing, we build stronger, healthier relationships and societies. Remember, sobriety and healing deserve celebration because they represent resilience, hope, and the power to break free from cycles of pain and judgment.
