It requires minimal equipment—sometimes just a mat—and can be adapted to fit your fitness level. Using small, controlled movements, Pilates targets deep muscle groups, which complements other fitness routines like weightlifting or cardio. For the 9-to-5 crowd or those working from home, setting a consistent Pilates schedule can break up long periods of inactivity. I like to spend time doing breathing exercises and gentle stretches right after logging off from work; it helps me mentally switch gears and unwind. Combining Pilates with mindful breathing also aids in managing stress and maintaining focus throughout the day. To start, focus on foundational Pilates moves such as the hundred, roll-up, and leg circles. These exercises improve flexibility and core strength, leading to better overall mobility.
