Safi's 2 week post op recovery update
Thanks for all your encouraging and kind comments about Safi's surgery. I wanted to update you all on her progress. She's on her third week of recovery and officially cone free now! Its been really challenging limiting her outdoor time to just the backyard, as she is a very active walker. Its a big change. She's been whining so much. 🥹 I'll give you guys more updates in the next vlog.
Let me know what you want to see for the upcoming winter and festive season! 🎅🎄🎁
Sharing a pet’s recovery journey from surgery like a TPLO (tibial plateau leveling osteotomy) can be both challenging and rewarding. It's common for highly active dogs like Safi to find the limited outdoor time difficult during the healing process. Restricting movement is crucial to ensure proper recovery and prevent complications. Many owners find that despite the challenges, maintaining a calm and comfortable environment helps ease stress and whining. Providing mental stimulation indoors, such as puzzle toys or training games, can keep an active dog engaged without risking injury. Being cone-free after two weeks is a positive milestone, signaling that Safi’s incision is healing well and she’s less likely to interfere with the surgical site. However, continued monitoring for any signs of discomfort, swelling, or unusual behavior is essential throughout the healing phases. For those who want to support pets during recovery, consulting your veterinarian about best practices for pain management, controlled exercise, and nutrition can optimize healing outcomes. Recovery timelines can vary, but typically a gradual return to normal activity over several weeks is advised. Lastly, sharing updates and connecting with communities online—as seen with tags like #tplosurgery and #doglife—can provide emotional support and valuable advice from others who have experienced similar journeys. Preparing for seasonal occasions like winter holidays can also be a good distraction and a source of joy during recovery, enhancing the overall well-being of pets and their owners alike.
