I've found that once you start, it's hard to stop – just like the OCR mentioned, you might end up making a "whole bunch of them" because it's so much fun and the results are "freaking awesome"! If you're wondering how to personalize a notebook or how to decorate a composition notebook, there are countless ways to approach notebook DIY design. You don't need fancy tools or materials. Often, the best designs come from everyday items you already have or can find easily. For a classic look, starting with a plain black and white composition book offers a perfect canvas. You can keep it monochrome with intricate patterns or add pops of color. Here are some of my go-to methods for making composition journals truly your own: 1. Collage Art: This is probably the easiest way to create your own notebook masterpiece. Gather old magazines, newspapers, patterned paper, or even print out images from the internet. Cut out interesting words, pictures, or textures. Use a good craft glue (like Mod Podge) to adhere them to the cover. You can cover the entire notebook or create a focal point. Once dry, add a layer or two of Mod Podge over the top to seal and protect your design, giving it a lovely matte or glossy finish. 2. Painting & Drawing: If you love to paint, acrylics work wonderfully on composition book covers. You can go for abstract designs, paint a favorite landscape, or even try some hand-lettering. For those who prefer drawing, permanent markers (like Sharpies) can create intricate mandala designs, geometric patterns, or personalized doodles. Stencils are also fantastic if you want crisp shapes or letters without freehand drawing. 3. Fabric & Washi Tape Covers: For a soft, tactile feel, cover your notebook with fabric. You can use fabric scraps, old scarves, or even repurposed clothing. Secure it with fabric glue or Mod Podge. Washi tape is another incredible tool for effortless decoration. Repurposing is key! Look for old notebooks that still have plenty of blank pages but a worn cover. Remove the old cover carefully and replace it with your DIY design. You can also use recycled paper for elements in your collage or natural dyes for painting. Buying composition notebooks with plain pages made from recycled content is another great step. 5. Adding Embellishments: Once your base design is done, think about adding fun embellishments. Stickers, glitter, rhinestones, ribbons, or even small charms can give your notebook that extra sparkle.
