MOM HOT TAKE: the mom community….

this challenge has really stirred some division and has shown some true colors and that’s ok! you’re not always going to agree with everyone on specific takes, and that’s OK!

the mom community is one of the MOST power communities out of many! but there’s also some really toxic moments. some moms have judgement and shame etc! sometimes you can’t even share an experience without people thinking you’re shoving your stance down their throat. sometimes you’re sharing, just to share 🤷🏽‍♀️

🌷the powerful side of the mom community

1. connection and support

you get to meet soooo many moms who are truly supportive! they’re always commenting on your posts to help boost, or they’re simply just giving you encouragement that you didn’t know you needed.

2. shared wisdom

moms are always sharing their advice, especially when asked, about certain things your going through with your littles! you can get tips, validation, and hacks!

3. advocacy and change

for things like postpartum depression, breastfeeding acceptance, and body positivity. us moms have really shifted a new dynamic. we’ve really influenced markets, policies, and cultural norms.

☁️toxic side of the mom community

1. judgement

some moms feel the need to compete with everything. (i had a friend who was like this) and it sometimes makes moms feel like there has to be a “right way” share your experience, but don’t try to shame a mom for her parenting choices. it’s okay to not agree silently.

2. comparison

social media is consistently causing us moms to feel like we have to compare our lives to influencers. or that our parenting has to look a certain way.

3. identity and insecurity

your new identity is motherhood. so sometimes another mom making comments can feel like criticism towards you. validation sometimes feels like survival. and that can lead to defensiveness or superiority.

🫶🏽it’s best to have an understanding that not everyone thinks or parents like you, and that’s ok. the mom community can really surprise you! yet sometimes some moms are always the first to shame when you do things differently. it’s best to not engage and continue to be you and genuine! 💖✨

... Read moreThe mom community truly embodies a powerful force, especially when it is grounded in grace and empathy. As highlighted, this community thrives on connection, support, and the sharing of wisdom that helps mothers navigate the complex realities of parenting. Real-life experiences show that moms often find strength in shared encouragement and practical advice about issues like coping with postpartum depression, breastfeeding, and body positivity. Advocacy within the community has brought meaningful shifts in societal norms, influencing markets and policies for the better. However, it’s important to recognize the toxic side of the mom community that can arise when interactions are driven by ego, judgment, and comparison. Social media can amplify insecurities and create pressure to meet unrealistic standards often set by influencers. This can lead to feelings of inadequacy or defensiveness among moms, as their new identities in motherhood are sometimes challenged or criticized. A genuine understanding that parenting styles and opinions vary is crucial for fostering a more supportive environment. While disagreements and differing perspectives are inevitable, engaging with empathy rather than shame allows mothers to share their experiences authentically without fear of judgment. It’s equally valuable to remember that silence or non-engagement is a healthy response when confronted with toxicity. By embracing both the powerful and challenging aspects of the mom community, mothers can continue to uplift each other, celebrate diversity in parenting, and advocate for positive societal change. The community becomes a space not only for shared survival but also for collective growth and empowerment, where validation and genuine support uplift every mom’s unique journey.

I think it’s the MOST TOXIC. Mom’s shaming other moms for different beliefs is disgusting!! It’s hard enough being responsible for another human life but to add the nonsense that comes from social media makes it that much worse b
