This kind of discrepancy is very common because estimating calories by sight or memory often leads to undercounting, especially when snacks or portion sizes are involved. One thing that really helped me was scanning my meals using an app that breaks down calories alongside macros like fat, carbs, and protein. Seeing a detailed log of breakfast, snacks, lunch, and dinner gave me insight into where I was actually getting most of my calories. For example, a breakfast of 520 calories might feel small, but combined with a 390-calorie snack and larger meals, the total can add up quickly. Another key learning is to avoid guessing and instead use accurate tracking methods. Measuring portions, reading nutrition labels, and recording every bite helps eliminate the guesswork. Additionally, factoring in exercise calories saved can give a fuller picture of your daily energy balance. If you're trying to maintain a calorie deficit for weight loss, these small but consistent insights can make a big difference. Instead of stressing over exact numbers, focus on steadily improving your tracking and choosing nutrient-rich foods.
