Not all great progress ends in crazy weight loss

This got a lot of hate when I first posted it one of my groups because my progress pic doesn’t end with weight loss…

now reposting a year later, it didn’t end at all.

When I first posted this a year ago, I posted because I was proud of my bulk, even when I was soo scared of gaining weight.

I was avoiding having a different body type all my life, and chased scale weight loss to obsession- but here, I have muscle and STRENGTH. And this is when I started fixing my actual health.

For context; before I became a coach back in college I tried diets, cardio, workout classes, every diet culture hack and ‘30 day workout challenge’ and…was obsessed with being skinny. Which led me to fighting my body to even stay the weight I was. (If I relaxed even a little bit my weight would jump up.) It was a brutale exhausting cycle.

I had alignment problems, joint pain, and imbalances. Aside from the fatigue, inflammation, nutrition cycling, I went to PT constantly.

(If you can see, even the way I’m standing has changed GREATLY, at one point I had to even rethink how to stand and walk!)

Making that mindset change on how I see the world as health/fitness specific goals rather than obsessing over what people want me to look like helped so much.

I’m currently 20lbs down from my cut right now, and I kinda don’t care 🙆🏼‍♀️

I’m not obsessing over it because it’s not the transformation I’m obsessed with. It’s the lifestyle, it’s feeling better everyday, it’s eating foods that help keep my body energized, and doing workouts that make me happy and make my body feel good.

The scale means nothing to me but a data point, measurements help me see where I am today, diets have me rolling my eyes, and if I see someone else’s journey I congratulate them without a single thought on comparing my own to it.

This is more of a win than a ‘I lost xyz weight in 30days’ post could ever be for me.

This is a fitness & health lifestyle goal

And I’m still going strong, even as a coach 🖤

... Read moreWhen I first started my fitness journey, like so many of us, I was absolutely fixated on numbers – the scale, clothing sizes, and those dramatic 'before and after' transformations I'd see online. I'd scroll through posts dreaming of my own 'two stone weight loss' story or a perfectly sculpted 'face after 20 lb weight loss.' I was convinced that true progress only looked like shedding massive amounts of weight. But years of this mindset, constantly fighting my body and obsessing over every pound, left me exhausted and frustrated. My mental health, physical well-being, and overall strength were suffering. It wasn't until I shifted my focus from just losing weight to gaining strength and muscle that everything changed. I started to understand what true 'body recomposition' meant. It's not just about being a certain size, like a '5'10 170 lbs female' or '165 5'2'; it's about how you feel and what your body can *do*. My progress pictures now tell a different story. They’re not just about less weight; they’re about more muscle definition. When I look at a 'side-by-side comparison' of my back or biceps, I see the result of consistent effort in the gym, not just calorie restriction. This visual proof of increased strength and muscle density became my new measure of success. It's incredibly empowering to feel strong, to see your body adapting and improving, regardless of the number on the scale. This shift in focus also completely transformed my approach to nutrition. Gone were the days of restrictive diets and guilt over every meal. Instead, I started asking, 'What is 'healthy food for gym' really about?' For me, it meant fueling my workouts and recovery, prioritizing protein for muscle repair, and enjoying diverse, nutrient-rich foods that kept me energized throughout the day. This isn't just about weight management; it's about optimizing your body from the inside out. For anyone struggling with specific areas, like a 'beer gut belly,' shifting to a whole-foods-based diet rich in protein and fiber, combined with consistent strength training, can lead to incredible changes in body composition, even if the scale doesn't scream 'weight loss' immediately. It's about reducing inflammation and building a more functional, healthier body. It's a journey of self-acceptance and continuous improvement, where the obsession with being 'skinny' is replaced by the joy of being strong and healthy. My advice to anyone feeling stuck, constantly comparing themselves to others' 'weight loss transformation' stories or specific body types like '5'3 200 lbs female,' is to re-evaluate your definition of progress. Focus on performance, energy, strength, and how you feel. The scale is just one data point; your overall well-being and capability are far more significant. This lifestyle isn't about an end goal of 'xyz weight loss in 30 days'; it's about living vibrantly every single day.
