3 things that studying Nutrition has taught me!

Studying Nutrition changed how I see “self care.”

It’s not always aesthetic.

It’s not always expensive.

And it’s definitely not always Instagram worthy.

Wellness culture sells aesthetics.

Your body asks for consistency.

Self care doesn’t have to cost a certain amount each month.

It doesn’t have to come in powder or pill form.

And it doesn’t have to look good online.

This isn’t about judging anyone’s choices.

It’s about reminding you that wellness isn’t exclusive.

Real self care is often boring.

It’s biological.

It’s consistent.

And it’s accessible.

You don’t have to buy your way into health

... Read moreAs a nutrition student, one of the biggest eye-openers for me was realizing how much 'wellness' is marketed as something expensive or complicated. We're constantly bombarded with images of perfectly curated routines, pricey detox teas, and exclusive gym memberships. But my studies constantly reinforce that true self-care is often incredibly simple, consistent, and accessible – things that wellness brands might not always highlight because they don't come with a hefty price tag. Take something as basic yet vital as the nutrients we get from our food. We often hear about fancy superfood powders or expensive 'supplements,' but my 'nutrition notes' always bring me back to the power of whole, unprocessed foods. For instance, understanding the role of high potassium vegetables has been a game-changer for me. It’s not just about flashy superfoods that come in a pouch; it's about incorporating everyday powerhouses into your diet. Potassium is vital for so many bodily functions – muscle contraction, nerve signals, balancing fluids, and maintaining healthy blood pressure. And guess what? You don't need expensive pills or specialized drinks to get enough. Think about how easily you can add a handful of spinach to an omelet or a smoothie, grab a banana for a quick and satisfying snack, or roast some sweet potatoes for dinner. Broccoli, avocados, and even everyday beans are fantastic sources of potassium, often far more affordable and bioavailable than any 'wellness shot' or fancy juice. It’s about being mindful of what you're buying at the grocery store, making choices that truly 'fueling your body' from the inside out, rather than chasing fleeting trends. This kind of practical knowledge is what I've gained from 'student studying nutrition notes' – focusing on what genuinely works for our biology. My studies have also shown me that 'self-care' isn't just about what you eat. It's about consistent holistic practices that support overall well-being. We often see 'aesthetic' gym selfies and feel pressured to invest in a '$150 gym membership,' but real progress, as my notes remind me, comes from simply 'moving your body' regularly, even if it's just a brisk walk in your neighborhood, dancing in your living room, or stretching for a few minutes each day. The key is 'consistency,' not intensity or cost. It's also about prioritizing 'good sleep' and allowing for proper 'recovery,' which often costs nothing but conscious effort and setting boundaries. Ditching the pressure for everything to look 'Instagram worthy' is incredibly liberating and allows you to focus on what truly makes you feel good. So, if you're like me, trying to navigate the often confusing world of wellness, remember these 'student studying nutrition notes': prioritize whole, unprocessed foods (like those amazing high potassium veggies!), move your body consistently in ways that feel good, make sleep non-negotiable for true 'recovery,' and consistently 'fuel your body' with real nourishment. It's these consistent, biological acts that truly build health and well-being, not the latest expensive product or the pressure to maintain a certain 'aesthetic.' It's about making small, sustainable choices that truly serve your unique body, rather than buying into the next big thing.
