Day 41 of starting solids and today we try peanut butter 🥜🫠. Always consult your doctor before giving any allergens to your baby! We are lucky and we don’t have a peanut butter allergy in our family, but we still wanted to be really safe. 🥜 so far Hugh has been fine with dairy and with eggs 🍳🐮🐄 so I’m excited to see how he does with peanut butter and if he does OK then we’ll start incorporating it weekly 🙂. Is there any allergens that you are worried about trying with your baby?

... Read moreStarting solids can be both exciting and nerve-wracking for new parents, especially when it comes to introducing common allergens such as peanut butter. From my experience, before introducing peanut butter, it’s crucial to monitor your baby’s reactions to other foods like dairy and eggs first. It’s reassuring to see positive responses as your baby tolerates these initial allergens, preparing you to carefully add peanut butter to their diet. When introducing peanut butter, I recommend choosing smooth peanut butter to reduce any choking hazard for babies just starting solids. Start with a small amount, mixed into purees or spread thinly on soft bread, to observe any immediate reactions over the next 24-48 hours. Always consult your pediatrician before starting allergenic foods, especially if there’s a family history of allergies. Keeping a food diary helps track what foods are introduced and any reactions, which can be valuable for discussions with your doctor. As you incorporate peanut butter weekly, watch for signs like rash, vomiting, or swelling, and maintain open communication with healthcare professionals. Planning gradual inclusion of various allergens supports building your baby’s tolerance, which can be a protective factor against food allergies later in life. Overall, patience and vigilance are key. Sharing experiences with other parents, either online or in parent groups, can provide emotional support and helpful tips during this introduction phase. Remember, each baby is unique, and what works for one might be different for another. Taking each step thoughtfully will help you feel confident in nourishing your baby safely and lovingly.
