... Read moreIn my personal experience, shifting the focus from merely burning calories to truly enjoying the act of movement has been transformative. Like many, I once spent hours on the treadmill, forcing workouts as a form of punishment after overeating or drinking. This approach led to temporary weight loss but ultimately resulted in regaining the weight, due to its unsustainability and negative mental association. What changed everything for me was embracing Pilates—not as a calorie burner, but as a fulfilling, engaging practice that celebrates my body's strength and flexibility. Teaching Pilates allowed me to connect with my body in a healthier way and fostered a genuine love for working out. This mental shift made exercise something to look forward to instead of dread. If you're struggling to stick with a workout routine, consider asking yourself: am I exercising to punish myself or to nourish and strengthen my body? Finding enjoyable forms of movement, whether it's Pilates, yoga, dancing, or hiking, can sustain your fitness journey far better than workouts aimed solely at calorie counting. Furthermore, self-compassion plays a crucial role. Instead of punishing yourself for occasional indulgences, recognize that balance is key in any healthy lifestyle. Movement should be a source of joy and wellbeing, not stress or self-criticism. By sharing this, I hope to encourage others to redefine their relationship with exercise. It’s not about the number on the treadmill display but about honoring your body and making movement a positive part of your life. This mindset can change your fitness experience, helping you feel empowered and happier every step of the way.
