A Condition Called Love - 6/10

Okay, so.. I still don’t know how I really feel about this series. I did enjoy the process of the main characters falling in love HOWEVER, I didn’t care for Hananoi’s character. It could just be a preference thing but I didn’t like how cold he was with everyone except for Hotaru. He was a hair away from being overbearing in my opinion. Aside from that it was sort of a typical high school love situation and really cute. Hotaru’s character was so innocent and adorable, it made the series really fresh. I do wish it would’ve had a few more episodes though.

My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv 999 - 10/10

*Dramatic sigh* I was so invested lol.. this series could’ve used another season. The progression of Akane and Yamada’s relationship was funny to me. I actually thought this would be a one sided love type situation. It was also a bit more mature than the usual high school love since Akane is a college student. The supporting characters were also a breath of fresh air and added a nice spin on how the romance between Akane and Yamada started forming. I’m adding this series to my go-to anime shows when I want something good but short to watch.

... Read moreHey everyone! So glad you stopped by for more anime chat. After sharing my quick takes on 'A Condition Called Love' and 'My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999', I wanted to dive a bit deeper into why these two romance anime left such distinct impressions on me. It’s always fun to break down what makes a series truly click, or sometimes, just fall a little short. Let's start with 'A Condition Called Love.' While I gave it a 6/10, it definitely had its charm, especially with Hotaru's incredibly innocent and sweet character. She truly brought a freshness to the high school romance genre. However, the feeling I couldn't shake about Hananoi's character was his almost too cold demeanor towards others, which sometimes bordered on overbearing. It made me wonder if the series could have explored his development beyond just Hotaru a bit more, making his transformation feel more earned. While the cherry blossoms and school uniform settings were classic and beautiful, some of the key anime scenes felt a little repetitive, following the typical high school love situation script. I kept hoping for a few more episodes to really flesh out their relationship and perhaps show Hananoi's softer side extending beyond just Hotaru, giving him more depth as a character. For me, a truly compelling romance needs both leads to grow, not just within their bubble but also as individuals navigating their world. Now, moving on to 'My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999' – what a gem! That 10/10 rating wasn't just given lightly. The progression between Akane and Yamada was an absolute delight to watch. I genuinely chuckled at their initial awkwardness and how their relationship slowly, organically blossomed. It stood out as a more mature romance, given Akane is a college student, which added a different layer compared to the usual high school dramas. The supporting characters, like Eita and Runa, were fantastic; they weren't just background fillers but actively contributed to the narrative, especially in how Akane and Yamada's romance started forming and overcoming obstacles. Watching Akane navigate her feelings and Yamada slowly open up provided so many memorable anime scenes. Those intimate moments, often subtle but impactful, really drew me into their world. Whether it was a quiet conversation in a park scene or a heartfelt hug, their connection felt incredibly real and relatable. This series truly captured the essence of falling for someone unexpectedly. When I think about what makes an anime stick with me and gets a high 'anime review,' it often comes down to character development and genuine emotional connection. I love seeing characters like Akane and Yamada grow together, facing realistic challenges and supporting each other. If you're looking for anime recommendations that blend comedy, gaming, and heartfelt romance, 'My Love Story with Yamada-kun' is definitely one I'd suggest. For those who enjoy a more traditional, slightly more angsty high school romance, 'A Condition Called Love' still offers some sweet moments. What are your thoughts on these two? Have you watched them? I'd love to hear your own anime reviews and what aspects you loved or didn't quite connect with. There are so many amazing romance anime out there, and finding those hidden gems or popular hits is always a fun journey!

I think “a condition called love” was aesthetically pleasing but Hanahoi’s character gave so many red flags 🚩 he didn’t want to hang with her friends, wanted all her time, was willing to physically hurt himself to make her happy (and it didn’t) also he like drastically changed who she was to make her like him
