When I first began going to the gym, I quickly realized that patience and proper technique were more important than lifting heavy weights right away. It’s tempting to push yourself, but as I learned from experience, that often leads to injury. One helpful tip is to practice basic movements like squatting using only your body weight. This helps you master balance and form before adding any additional weights. I found that standing with my heels firmly on the ground and focusing on controlled movements prevented common mistakes. Using a bench or box to assist can also be an excellent way to build confidence and stability. Adding light plates as you grow stronger, rather than jumping to heavy weights immediately, made a big difference in avoiding strain. Throughout this process, keeping hydrated and listening to your body’s signals are essential—sometimes rest is just as important as workout intensity. For anyone unsure about where to start, I highly recommend a guided movement assessment. It highlights areas needing improvement, so you can target your training effectively and stay injury-free. Overall, my advice is to enjoy the journey and respect your body’s current limits—progress will come with time.
