Overripe Strawberries Turned Into Jam 🍓
I meant to use these strawberries earlier in the week… you know how that goes. 🍓
Had a couple pounds that were getting a little too ripe, so instead of tossing them I made homemade strawberry jam in the bread machine.
Tried it on a slice of my homemade wheat bread with a little peanut butter and wow… it was so good.
First I stopped buying bread.
Now I think jam just got crossed off the grocery list too.
This bread machine has honestly been one of my favorite purchases from last year. It saves time, money, and I know exactly what’s going into my food.
Next up… refreshing the black mulch in the flower beds and getting the yard ready for spring.
Hope everyone has a great week!
I’ve recently started making homemade strawberry jam using my bread machine whenever I notice the strawberries in my fridge getting too ripe. It's such a smart way to avoid food waste and still enjoy the fresh flavor of strawberries well beyond their prime. The process is surprisingly easy once you get the hang of it, especially with a bread machine that does the cooking for you. One thing I love about making jam at home is that I control the ingredients, so it’s free from preservatives or excess sugars found in store-bought jars. I usually keep the recipe simple with just strawberries, a bit of sugar, and lemon juice to balance the sweetness. The jam I make complements my homemade wheat bread perfectly—whether spread with peanut butter or just on its own, it’s a real treat. If you’re new to making jam, I recommend starting with a small batch. It’s also key to use overripe but not spoiled strawberries so the jam has the best flavor and texture. As a bonus, using a bread machine saves you lots of hands-on stirring time, making it a great kitchen multitasker. After preserving your jam, spring is a perfect time to refresh your garden spaces too. I’ve been reapplying black mulch in my flower beds to keep weeds down and soil moist, preparing my yard for the warmer months ahead. It’s amazing how little extra home projects like these—whether in the kitchen or garden—can bring so much satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment. Overall, making jam from overripe strawberries turned out to be one of my favorite ways to add homemade goodness to my kitchen. I’d encourage anyone with a bread machine or simple cooking setup to give it a try. It’s economical, reduces waste, and tastes fabulous with fresh bread or as a sweet snack on its own. Here’s to enjoying more homemade delights all year round!

I used to make jellies and jam as a kid. My mother taught me. This brings back memories.🥰
