Come with me on a day trip to Howth, Ireland!

Exploring Howth! Just a short train ride from Dublin, but a whole world away! Stunning cliffs, fresh air, and the best seafood I've had since I got here! We were lucky we had such a beautiful, sunny day because the views from the hike were breathtaking! Definitely recommend this as an easy day trip for anyone visiting Dublin!

... Read moreIf you're planning a day trip from Dublin, Howth truly is a gem you can't miss! My recent visit left me absolutely smitten with its natural beauty and delicious food. It's so easy to get to, making it the perfect escape from the city hustle. Getting to Howth from Dublin: One of the best parts about Howth is how accessible it is. I simply hopped on the DART train from Dublin city center, and in about 30 minutes, I was stepping out into this charming coastal village. The journey itself offers lovely views along the coast. Alternatively, if you're heading straight for the panoramic views, you can take a bus directly to Howth Summit, which is a great starting point for some of the cliff walks. It’s a straightforward and scenic commute, so no need for complicated transfers or worrying about how to get to Howth Head. The Spectacular Howth Cliff Walk: This was definitely the highlight for me! The Howth Cliff walk offers some of the most breathtaking views you'll find near Dublin. As I walked along the winding dirt path, the rugged coastline unfolded before my eyes, with steep, rocky cliffs plunging into the clear blue sea. There are different routes you can take, depending on how much time and energy you have. I opted for the famous 12km loop, which took a few hours but was absolutely worth every step for the expansive views of the Irish Sea and distant lighthouse. Remember to wear sturdy shoes, as some parts can be a bit uneven, but the fresh air and incredible scenery are unbeatable. You might even spot people swimming in secluded coves on a warm day! A Taste of Howth: Beshoff Bros Fish and Chips: You absolutely cannot visit Howth without trying the local seafood, especially the legendary Beshoff Bros fish and chips! After a refreshing cliff walk, there’s nothing better than tucking into freshly battered cod and crispy chips. I grabbed a takeaway box from Beshoffs right by the Howth harbor, and it was pure bliss – flaky fish, perfectly cooked, with a squeeze of lemon. It truly lived up to its reputation as some of the best fish and chips in Ireland. Eating it by the water, watching the sailboats and yachts in the harbor, was such an authentic experience. Beyond the Cliffs: Exploring the Village and Pier: Once you've conquered the cliffs and enjoyed your meal, take some time to wander around the village. The Howth pier walk is lovely, offering views of the fishing trawlers and local seals who often pop up to say hello. You can browse the market stalls if it's a weekend, or simply enjoy the quaint atmosphere. The distant views of the white lighthouse from the cliff path are stunning, but getting closer to the harbor gives you a different perspective of this bustling fishing town. If you're considering expanding your trip, while this article focuses on Howth, there are also options for transfers that combine trips to Malahide, offering another beautiful coastal experience nearby. Howth truly offers a complete day trip experience – from exhilarating hikes and unreal views to delicious food and charming village life. It’s a place that combines natural beauty with a relaxed, welcoming vibe, making it a must-do for anyone visiting Dublin!
