✨A Light 💡in the Night🌙
Hey family 💛🙏🏾 as I sat with the Lord this evening, my heart kept coming back to one simple but searching question: WHAT is motivating my faith? 🕯️✨ Motivation itself isn’t a bad thing. It’s the ENERGY behind our ACTIONS 💪🏾🔥. But when it comes to following Jesus, the SOURCE of that motivation matters more than we realize.
Some believers are motivated by FEAR 😨. Fear of punishment. Fear of consequences. Fear that if they mess up, God will pull away. But that kind of motivation doesn’t produce LOVE ❤️. It produces CONTROL ⚠️. And God does not operate through manipulation or intimidation. That’s not His CHARACTER 🙌🏾.
God desires OBEDIENCE rooted in LOVE 💖, not compliance rooted in fear. Scripture tells us plainly that PERFECT LOVE casts out fear 🕊️. When fear is driving your faith, your heart posture shifts. You’re no longer walking with God, you’re trying to avoid Him being displeased. That’s not relationship. That’s survival mode.
Our faith should be motivated by GRATITUDE 🙏🏾, AWE 😭, and BELIEF ✝️ in what Jesus already accomplished on the cross. Before we ever loved God, HE LOVED US FIRST 💕. Before we were obedient, CHRIST was faithful 🩸. That changes everything.
Tonight, take a moment to EXAMINE YOUR HEART 🔍. Ask yourself: Am I obeying God because I’m afraid… or because I’m thankful? Am I serving Him out of pressure… or out of love? God isn’t asking you to fear Him into obedience. He’s inviting you to love Him into FAITHFULNESS 🌿.

Reflecting on my own faith journey, I've come to realize how fear can subtly influence our motivation to follow God. Early on, I often found myself obeying out of fear—fear of making mistakes or losing God's favor. It felt like walking on eggshells rather than embracing a heartfelt relationship. But over time, through prayer and meditation on scriptures like 1 John 4:18 and Romans 5:8, I learned that God’s perfect love truly casts out fear. One powerful lesson for me was understanding that obedience born from love is freeing, not restricting. When I shifted my focus to God’s unwavering love and the grace demonstrated through Jesus' sacrifice, my heart posture changed. I served with gratitude, awe, and genuine belief, not pressure or avoidance of punishment. The image reminding "Ooh, if you don't help the needy, God is gonna get you!" humorously captures how fear-based faith can feel controlling. But faith motivated by love empowers us to act out of compassion and sincere connection with God. Helping others becomes an expression of love, not a fearful obligation. If you find your faith weighed down by worry or fear, I encourage you to pause and honestly examine what drives your actions. Are you seeking to avoid consequences or to respond with heartfelt love? Choosing love transforms our faith experience, opening the door to freedom in Christ and a life lived with joy rather than survival mode. This journey isn’t always easy, but leaning into gratitude and Jesus’ faithfulness changes everything.
