Easy Sweet Fried Plantains 🍌

We bought these plantains about a week ago & they’ve been just sitting on the counter just waiting to get ripe so we could have a sweet snack!! Super easy && takes less than 10 minutes!!

Recipe:

✨ Wait til plantains get a few black spots ( the blacker it is, the sweeter )

✨ Peel & slice into thick slices

✨ Heat about a cup of olive oil in a pan ( may need a little more depending on the pan size )

✨ Fry plantains until golden brown on both sides

✨ Place on paper towel to dry

✨ If you want a little more added sweetness, drizzle with honey

First things first, let's talk about ripeness. My recipe mentions waiting for black spots, and honestly, this is the golden rule for sweet fried plantains! Think of it like a banana – the more black spots, the sweeter it gets. Don't be afraid if they look really black; that's when they're at their peak sweetness, making for the most delicious fried plantain dessert. If your plantains are still yellow with just a few spots, they'll be slightly firmer and less sweet, which some people prefer, but for that truly caramel-like flavor, go for the dark ones. I've definitely made the mistake of frying them too early, and while still tasty, they just didn't have that incredible melt-in-your-mouth sweetness. Now, for the frying part – it's all about that pan! While I use olive oil, you can totally experiment. Coconut oil gives them a lovely tropical hint, and even a neutral vegetable oil works great. The key is to get your oil to medium heat. You don't want it smoking hot, or your slices of fried plantain will burn on the outside before they're cooked through. A good test is to drop a tiny piece of plantain in; if it gently sizzles, you're ready to go. I usually aim for about 2-3 minutes per side.
