The BEST Homemade Hot Fudge 🍦
A hot fudge sundae with a couple of extra touches!
First off, this ice cream is outrageous, it’s so good. I layered it in a parfait glass with hot fudge (below) and added caramel corn on top. If you don’t want to have the espresso flavor just omit it and you’ll have regular chocolate fudge.
INGREDIENTS
* 1- 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
* 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
* 2 tbsp espresso powder
* 2 tbsp unsalted butter, room temperature
* 1 tsp vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste
* Ice cream flavor of your choice- I love chocolate or coffee-flavored to bring out the taste of the espresso
INSTRUCTIONS
* In a small pot, combine the sweetened condensed milk and espresso powder. Add the chocolate chips and heat over medium heat until the chocolate chips are melted. Be sure to keep stirring so that the chocolate doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pot.
* Remove from the heat and stir in the butter and vanilla extract until the butter is completely melted and incorporated.
* Use the fudge while it’s warm or store it in the fridge until you’re ready to use it. Heat it back up in the microwave before serving.

Oh my goodness, nothing beats a warm, gooey drizzle of homemade hot fudge! I used to think making hot fudge from scratch was super complicated, but I discovered this incredible recipe, and it's become my go-to for elevating any dessert. While the original article gives you the basics for the perfect espresso hot fudge, I've got some extra tips and tricks to make yours even more spectacular and versatile! First off, let's talk about what makes hot fudge sauce so special. It’s not quite the solid candy fudge you might think of; it's that rich, pourable, utterly decadent chocolate sauce that hardens slightly when it hits cold ice cream. The best part? This recipe, especially with that little espresso kick, is so easy to master. I've found that constantly stirring is key to preventing any sticking or scorching – trust me, a burnt chocolate smell is the last thing you want! And don't worry if you're not an espresso fan; it's totally optional and you can still get a fantastic classic chocolate hot fudge. Now, about those other fudge cravings! While this recipe is for a glorious hot fudge *sauce*, I often get asked about variations. If you're dreaming of a nutty twist, try swirling in a couple of tablespoons of your favorite smooth peanut butter or almond butter after you remove the hot fudge from the heat and stir in the butter and vanilla. It creates this amazing marbled effect and adds a whole new layer of flavor that's perfect for peanut butter lovers. Or, for a touch of sophistication, add a pinch of sea salt and a drizzle of caramel sauce to the finished hot fudge for a salted caramel hot fudge experience – divine! Beyond just sundaes, this homemade hot fudge sauce is incredibly versatile. I love using it to make the richest hot fudge milkshakes – just blend a spoonful or two with ice cream and milk. It’s also fantastic drizzled over pancakes or waffles for a luxurious breakfast, as a dip for fresh fruit, or even stirred into your morning coffee for a mocha treat. And for those who love a good ice cream party, setting out a bowl of this warm espresso hot fudge alongside various toppings (whipped cream, chopped nuts, sprinkles, cherries, even crushed cookies!) is always a huge hit. Finally, a quick troubleshooting tip: if your fudge sauce ever seems a little too thick after cooling, don't panic! A quick warm-up in the microwave or a double boiler will bring it right back to that perfect pourable consistency. If it looks like it's separating, a good whisk or stir will usually bring it back together. Making homemade hot fudge is such a rewarding experience, and with these extra ideas, you'll be able to enjoy your delicious creation in so many more ways!
