Tips For relieving back labor

Once I hit 37 weeks of pregnancy, my midwife give me a list of exercises, including the miles circuit to help get the baby in the proper position to avoid back to spine positioning of the baby, which can cause back labor and cause the mother a lot of extra unnecessary pain.

I did the miles circuit almost every single day for two weeks, and also went on walks as often as possible, and did everything right however, I still ended up with back labor and honestly it was not as bad as I thought it was going to be.

It was pretty painful, but following the tips that I listed above help to relieve the pain a lot.

This was my first home birth, and also my first birth where I was completely in control and in power of what I wanted to do and how I wanted to move and what position I wanted to be in.

The thought of this scared me a little in the beginning of my pregnancy, so I started reading different books on homebirth trying to decide what the best birthing positions would be or what the best breathing method would be, but something that all the books told me was that once I was in labor my body would naturally resort to what it was meant to do, and would know how it wanted to move and breathe, and I found that to be exactly the case. I tried having a few contractions in different positions, but always ended up dropping to my knees because I found that being on all fours what is the best way for me to deal with the pain and breathe through the labor. The birth pool also helped so much by creating buoyancy and letting me ease into each contraction.

I really leaned into the fact that my body would know what to do, and that no matter what I could get through every contraction easily since my body was made to do this… and my body followed my mindset, and I found that to be the case.

Reassurance of the body's capabilities is central to combatting anxiety ahead of childbirth, ensuring a positive, empowered birthing journey.
