Weird tricks that calm my adhd

... Read moreManaging ADHD daily can feel overwhelming, but incorporating a few unconventional yet effective tricks can make a big difference. One helpful tip is to keep "ugly" or messy notebooks instead of pretty ones, because they feel less intimidating and encourage consistent use. Breaking tasks into "stupidly specific" steps, such as "put hoodie on chair" instead of just "clean room," helps reduce overwhelm and promotes clear focus. Starting a task while standing up also triggers action before the brain has time to resist, making it easier to get moving. Wearing certain clothing like shoes, uncomfortable pants, or gloves while cleaning conditions your brain to enter "cleaning mode," creating a habitual mental trigger that improves task engagement. For those who struggle to focus in complete silence, adding background noise such as café sounds can transform your productivity and concentration. These tips reflect the reality of neurodiversity — unique brain wiring that benefits from tailored strategies rather than one-size-fits-all advice. Embracing mindfulness and developing personalized coping skills can help individuals with ADHD harness their strengths while managing challenges. Adapt these techniques to fit your lifestyle and keep experimenting with what works best for your mind’s beautiful chaos. Sharing experiences and learning from others navigating ADHD life often uncovers new insights and fosters a supportive community. If you have your own weird but effective tricks, sharing them could inspire someone else to find calm amid their own whirlwind.

ADHD'er here ✋🏾. I also learned some tips from my therapist that have worked. 1. The Pomodoro Technique. This one is HANDS DOWN my favorite for productivity. I set a timer for 5,10, or 15 mins, just to get me started on at least one thing. 2. Pomodoro Cube Timer. Also one of my top favs. Instead of my phone timer( screen time is a huge distraction for me), I use my cube timer instead. It tricks my brain to think I'm racing against the time. Each side has a different length of time you desire. I got mine from Amazon. 3. Have a Google assistant device remind me of things I think of on the spot so I my brain won't forget later. Sometimes I don't have access to pen and paper all the time
