How to make milk thistle tea 🥰

2025/9/15 Edited to

... Read moreHey everyone! I've been getting so many questions lately about liver health and natural remedies, and I just had to share my favorite go-to: homemade milk thistle tea! You might have seen the super quick recipe I shared earlier, but I wanted to dive a little deeper into why this simple herbal brew has become a game-changer for me and how you can truly make the most of it. First off, let's talk about why milk thistle is so amazing. For centuries, this incredible herb has been lauded for its liver-protective properties. I used to feel a bit sluggish, especially after heavy meals, and after incorporating milk thistle into my routine, I genuinely feel a difference in my energy and overall well-being. It's like a gentle detox that supports your liver's natural functions. The active compound, silymarin, is a powerful antioxidant, and knowing that I'm giving my liver some extra love makes me feel great. Now, about the recipe itself. The basic method is so straightforward, but here are my personal tips for making it extra potent and delicious. As the OCR mentioned, you'll want one spoonful of milk thistle (I usually use dried seeds, lightly crushed, or a good quality tea cut), one spoonful of licorice root, and one spoonful of dried tangerine peel. Quality Matters: I always try to source organic milk thistle seeds, licorice root, and tangerine peel from reputable herbal suppliers. The quality of your ingredients really impacts the flavor and efficacy. Crushing the Seeds: For the milk thistle, a light crush in a mortar and pestle or even a clean coffee grinder can help release those beneficial compounds. Don't pulverize it, just a gentle crack. The Power Trio: The addition of licorice isn't just for sweetness; it's also known for its soothing properties and can aid digestion. The dried tangerine peel adds a lovely citrusy aroma and flavor, plus it's traditionally used to support digestion and qi flow. It creates such a balanced and enjoyable flavor profile! Steeping Perfectly: The OCR says "add hot water, stir well, wait for 10-15 minutes." I usually bring my water to a boil, then let it sit for about 30 seconds before pouring it over my herbs. This prevents burning them and allows for a gentle extraction. Covering your mug or teapot while steeping is key to keep all those aromatic compounds and steam from escaping. Sometimes, if I want a stronger brew, I'll even let it steep for 20 minutes. Sweetener (Optional): While licorice adds natural sweetness, if you prefer it a bit sweeter, a tiny drizzle of raw honey or a touch of stevia can be lovely. I often drink it plain now because I've grown to love the natural herbal flavors. Beyond just supporting your liver and stomach, I've found this tea to be incredibly comforting, especially on a chilly evening. It's become a little ritual for me. If you're new to herbal teas or looking for a gentle way to incorporate more wellness into your routine, this milk thistle blend is an excellent starting point. Remember to listen to your body, and if you have any underlying health conditions or are on medication, it's always wise to chat with a healthcare professional before adding new herbal remedies to your diet. Enjoy your brew!
