OneFinity CNC catch all tray

One more Millennium Falcon tray out of cherry. I start with a 1/4" roughing bit, move to a 1/32" diameter tapered ball nose for the finishing pass, and then a 1/4" downcutting bit for the final outline profile pass.

... Read moreWhen working with a OneFinity CNC machine to carve intricate projects like this Millennium Falcon tray, choosing the right sequence of bits is key to achieving a clean and precise finish. Starting with a 1/4" roughing bit allows you to quickly remove the bulk of the material from the cherry wood, setting the foundation for detailed work. The next step, using a 1/32" diameter tapered ball nose bit, is essential for capturing fine details and smoothing curves, especially in designs with complex contours such as the lines and shapes of the Millennium Falcon. Finishing with a 1/4" downcutting bit helps to clean up the edges and create crisp outlines without fraying the wood fibers, which is particularly important for a polished final piece. This combination of bits, paired with proper feed rates and spindle speed adjustments, ensures a high-quality finish, minimizing the need for extensive manual sanding or correction. Additionally, utilizing the machine’s software to preview the toolpath, as referenced by the OCR data showing G-code commands and machine states, helps you closely monitor the progress and make adjustments early on. I personally find that tweaking the feed rate and depth of cut according to the wood hardness leads to smoother cutting and less wear on the bits. If you’re interested in starting your own projects with OneFinity CNC, taking advantage of referral codes like "makingathome" can save costs on your purchase. Also, engaging with the CNC community forums, such as those tagged #onefinitycnc and #redlinecnc, can provide valuable insights and inspiration. Overall, the key to successful CNC carving on detailed projects lies in bit selection, machine settings, and careful planning of each machining pass. With the right approach, you can create stunning, precise custom trays or decorations that showcase both your CNC skills and creativity.
