Is retinol helping or making things worse?

The answer is a little of both for most people, but the worsening part is only temporary and mostly from misuse.

Retinoids increase cell turnover (meaning you see more flaking skin), and stimulates collagen. Stimulating collagen = reverse signs of aging (fine lines, wrinkles, uneven skin tone/sun spots), but with that also comes dry skin.

Dry skin from retinoids can temporarily make your skin look older than it is, but it’s easily correctable. Layer hydrating mists, serums, and moisturizers with your retinol to help counter that, or the day before (or after) focus on hydration.
