Skip the crowded patios… I think I finally found the perfect summer date night or getaway✨

Live music, a 3-course dinner, cocktails, and a waterfall backdrop, all less than 30 minutes from Ottawa.

Welcome to @wakefieldmill a historic riverside escape where you can wine, dine, and even stay the night overlooking the beautiful MacLaren Falls.

Dating back to 1838, this former flour mill has been transformed into a charming hotel while preserving its original historic character. Today, it’s the perfect mix of nature, history, relaxation, and incredible food.

Start your evening at La Muse Restaurant, located right inside the hotel, and come hungry for their 3-course table d’hôte experience. Their new summer menu features fresh, local seasonal ingredients, with your dinner table overlooking the waterfall, you can literally hear the peaceful sounds of the water while you dine.

The new summer menu and service were amazing. We loved the arancini and smoked duck to start, the catch of the day, and the steak and shrimp was my favourite dish of the night 🤤

After dinner, head over to the Heron Lounge for live music every Friday and Saturday. Enjoy a cocktail while listening to talented musicians, play chess or board games, challenge someone to a game of pool, learn about the hotel’s history, or simply stroll the beautiful grounds.

Whether it’s a date night, anniversary, or a relaxing weekend getaway, Wakefield Mill is the perfect little escape from the city. 🌿

What really sets this place apart is the perfect combination of nature, history, and exceptional dining—all without the hassle of busy city crowds. Arriving at Wakefield Mill feels like stepping into a peaceful retreat. The historic mill, dating back to 1838, has been beautifully preserved, blending old-world charm with modern comforts. The highlight of my visit was dining at La Muse Restaurant, where the 3-course table d’hôte menu features fresh local ingredients that celebrate the summer season. Sitting by the window overlooking the breathtaking MacLaren Falls added a magical ambiance to the meal. I especially enjoyed the smoked duck starter and the steak and shrimp main dish, both crafted with skill and great flavors. After dinner, the Heron Lounge offers a cozy setting with live music every Friday and Saturday. Sipping on expertly mixed cocktails while listening to talented local musicians made for a wonderful way to unwind. The lounge also offers games like chess and pool, adding to the fun atmosphere. What I love about Wakefield Mill is that it caters to all types of visitors—couples on a romantic date night, friends looking for a lively evening, or anyone wanting to escape the city's hustle for a peaceful weekend surrounded by nature. Staying overnight allows you to fully relax and enjoy scenic walks around the property, soaking in the tranquil waterfall sounds. Overall, this destination offers an unbeatable blend of delicious cuisine, cultural entertainment, and natural beauty—all within a short drive from Ottawa. If you're searching for a memorable summer experience that goes beyond the usual patio scene, Wakefield Mill should definitely be on your list.
