Managing pregnancy symptoms while still working ✨

Pregnancy doesn’t press pause on life—especially when you’re working long hours, on your feet, and in the summer heat. I work as a bartender on a boat, which means motion, multitasking, and minimal breaks. Here’s how I’ve been managing my pregnancy symptoms while still showing up for work:

🌊 Stay Hydrated – I always keep a giant water bottle with me. I add lemon or electrolyte powder to stay energized.

🧊 Cooling Hacks – I bring a small fan and wear cooling wristbands or a damp cloth on my neck during shifts.

🥨 Snacks on Hand – I keep bland snacks like crackers, trail mix, or fruit in my bag to fight nausea and keep my blood sugar up.

💆‍♀️ Prenatal Support – I wear supportive shoes and a belly band to ease back pain while standing.

🪑 Micro Breaks – Even if it’s 2 minutes, I take a seat, close my eyes, and breathe deep when I can. It helps more than you’d think.

👟 Gentle Movement After Work – A light stretch or walk helps with swelling and keeps my body feeling somewhat normal after a long shift.

Pregnancy while working is no joke, but with a few tricks and a lot of grace, I’m making it through one day at a time 💛

... Read moreManaging pregnancy symptoms while working, especially in physically demanding and fast-paced environments like bartending on a boat, requires practical strategies to maintain well-being and productivity. Staying hydrated is critical; drinking plenty of water enhanced with lemon or electrolyte powders helps replenish lost fluids and maintain energy levels throughout long shifts. Cooling strategies such as carrying a portable fan, using cooling wristbands, or applying damp cloths on the neck can effectively combat heat stress, which is common during summer work or on heated boats. Maintaining stable blood sugar levels and fighting nausea during pregnancy can be supported by eating bland, easy-to-digest snacks such as crackers, trail mix, or fresh fruits. Packing these snacks ensures quick access during brief breaks. Prenatal support gear, including supportive shoes and belly bands, plays an essential role in easing back pain and providing comfort when standing for extended periods. Short micro breaks, even as brief as two minutes to sit, breathe deeply, and rest, contribute significantly to mental and physical relief. These brief pauses help reduce stress and fatigue, promoting better focus and endurance throughout the workday. Incorporating gentle movement like light stretching or walking after work further alleviates swelling and improves circulation, helping the body recover from the strain of a shift. Employers and coworkers can also support pregnant workers by allowing flexibility, providing ergonomic accommodations, and encouraging regular rest intervals. Overall, combining hydration, cooling techniques, appropriate nutrition, prenatal support, and mindful breaks empowers pregnant employees to manage symptoms effectively while continuing to fulfill demanding job responsibilities safely and with grace.
