Making Homemade Butter!
I'm sure you have seen alot of people getting on the sourdough train but if you are anything like me, I keep messing up the starter 😅
Instead, let's try something simpler.... BUTTER!!
This is easier with a stand mixer but you can also shake the cream in a jar or do a hand mixer for 15 minutes as well.
What you need:
Heavy Whipping Cream
Salt (if desired, you can season it other ways too)
Strainer
Parchment Paper
Bowls
Mixer
What to do:
1. Put just the Heavy Whipping Cream in the mixer and mix until separated. this is typically 15 minutes.
2. DONT DRAIN THE LIQUID, that's buttermilk ☺️ you can use that for making biscuits or pancakes! Instead, get a strainer and put it over a bowl. squeeze the butter to make sure to get out all the buttermilk. Then store the buttermilk byproduct.
3. Put the butter in a ice bath or cold water and ring out and residual buttermilk.
4. Put butter in a bowl and mix it with the seasonings you want. Most common is salt.
5. Put butter on parchment paper and shape the butter how you would like.
6. Put butter in fridge to make it more solid and enjoy!

I've been doing this & the butter is so good as well as the buttermilk. I love cooking with fresh ingredients which this definitely is. I get a pint of buttermilk out of 2 pints of heavy cream plus 2 large sticks of butter.
