... Read moreHey amazing hair fam! I know the struggle is REAL when it comes to managing low porosity hair, especially when frizz decides to make an unwelcome appearance. My blowout routine has been a game-changer, but I've learned so much more about keeping my hair frizz-free and healthy on a daily basis. First off, let's talk about why low porosity hair and frizz often go hand-in-hand. Our hair cuticles are tightly packed, making it hard for moisture to get in. But paradoxically, once it's in, it can be hard for it to stay there, or external humidity can cause the cuticle to swell and poof! Think of it like a stubborn fortress. This means regular products can just sit on top, leading to buildup and even more frizz because the hair isn't truly hydrated from within. That's why my routine focuses on opening that cuticle with heat during deep conditioning and using lightweight oils to seal it all in without creating a heavy coating. Beyond wash day, daily habits are crucial. I've found that how I treat my hair between blowouts makes a huge difference. For starters, always be gentle! After showering, I swear by my microfiber towel (just like in step 4 of my routine!). It absorbs excess water without roughing up the cuticle, which is a major frizz trigger. Air drying can work, but if you're battling humidity, a quick, cool blow dry can help smooth things down. Product selection is another big one for me. Since low porosity hair can get weighed down easily, I lean towards water-based leave-ins and stylers. If you're using humectants like glycerin, be mindful of the weather. In very humid or very dry climates, they can actually draw moisture out of your hair or pull too much in, leading to frizz. It’s all about balance! I also love to refresh with a light mist of water and a tiny bit of my favorite lightweight oil – like jojoba or grapeseed oil (my go-to for sealing!). These oils are fantastic because they penetrate without leaving a greasy residue, helping to combat frizz and add that beautiful shine. And speaking of shine, don't forget your sleep routine! I used to wake up with a halo of frizz, but switching to a satin pillowcase or bonnet has been a total game-changer. It reduces friction, keeps your style intact, and prevents your hair from drying out overnight. Lastly, don't underestimate the power of a good humidity spray, especially if you live in a humid climate like Florida (where it’s a must for me!). It creates a protective barrier that helps keep your hair smooth and frizz-free, even on the stickiest days. Combining these daily habits with a solid wash-day routine has truly transformed my low porosity hair from a frizzy mess to shiny, manageable strands. What are your go-to frizz-fighting tips?
