... Read moreAfter getting gel nails, it's common to worry if you notice something unusual like a dark spot or what seems like debris under the nail. From personal experience and discussions with nail care professionals, such discoloration can sometimes occur if air bubbles are trapped during application or if a bit of nail polish or gel pigment seeps in under the nail edge. Often, this isn’t painful and may not pose immediate harm, but it’s important to keep an eye on changes. However, if you notice the discoloration getting darker, spreading, or if you experience pain or swelling, it could indicate an infection or subungual hematoma (a collection of blood beneath the nail). It's best to consult a professional nail technician or dermatologist in such cases. To maintain healthy gel nails, ensure your nails are clean and dry before application, and visit a reputable salon that follows hygiene protocols. Remember to give your nails a break between gel fills to allow them to breathe and prevent damage. If you discover any unusual foreign materials under the gel, do not attempt to peel or force it off, as this might cause nail damage. Instead, seek professional advice. Regular moisturizing of your cuticles and nails with nourishing oils can also support nail health under gels. In summary, mild discoloration or trapped material can occasionally happen post gel application and may be harmless. Still, vigilance and proper nail care routines help keep your nails safe and beautiful after gel nail treatments.
