Weekly fruit prep 🍓🫐🍒🍉🌱
Let’s wash and prep fruit for the week! This helps me have easy snacks ready to go all through the week! #mealprep #lemon8challenge
As someone who’s always on the go, I’ve found that a bit of Weekly Fruit Prep on the weekend completely transforms my snacking habits. It’s not just about having healthy food available; it's about making the healthy choice the easiest choice. If you're struggling to build a more reasonable snack routine, this is truly a game-changer! Why I Swear by Weekly Fruit Prep: Time Saver: Grabbing a pre-washed and cut snack takes seconds, versus the five minutes (or more) it would take to do it from scratch. Those minutes add up during a busy week! Healthier Choices: When you have vibrant, ready-to-eat fruit staring back at you from the fridge, you're much less likely to reach for processed snacks. It satisfies sweet cravings naturally. Reduces Waste: I find I eat more of the fruit I buy when it's prepped. No more forgotten berries at the back of the fridge! My Go-To Grocery Store Fruits for Prepping: When I hit the grocery store, I always look for fruits that hold up well after being prepped. Some of my favorites include: Berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries): They are fantastic for quick washes and can be easily stored. Grapes: A simple wash is all they need, and they're ready to snack on. Melons (cantaloupe, honeydew, watermelon): These are perfect for cubing and storing in airtight containers. Pineapple: A bit more effort to cut, but so worth it for those sweet, tangy chunks. Oranges/Grapefruits: While I often peel these fresh, segments can be prepped for a few days. Apples/Pears: I usually slice these fresh to prevent browning, but a quick dip in lemon water can help if you want to pre-slice. My Simple Step-by-Step Weekly Fruit Prep: Wash Thoroughly: For berries and grapes, I like to give them a rinse in a colander. For firmer fruits like apples or melons, a good scrub under cold water is key. Some people use a vinegar wash (1 cup vinegar to 3 cups water) for berries to extend freshness, followed by a thorough rinse. Dry, Dry, Dry! This is perhaps the most crucial step for longevity! Moisture is the enemy of fresh fruit. I spread out washed berries on a clean kitchen towel to air dry completely, and I use a salad spinner for grapes. For larger fruits, pat them very dry after washing and cutting. Cut and Chop: This is where the real convenience comes in. I cube melons, segment oranges, and hull strawberries. Think about how you’ll want to eat them during the week. Smart Storage: This is where you maximize freshness. I use airtight containers, often lining them with a paper towel on the bottom to absorb any excess moisture. I try to store different types of fruit separately when possible. Berries generally last 3-5 days when properly prepped and stored. By dedicating just 30-60 minutes on a Sunday, my fridge is stocked with colorful, healthy options that make building a reasonable snack routine effortless. It truly makes a difference in my energy levels and overall well-being throughout the week!
