Perfect on burgers, amazing as a sandwich spread, incredible as a pasta salad dressing (did you see that Big Mac Lasta Salad I posted?!), and obviously great for dipping!
Mix all of the following ingredients together and store in the fridge until you’re ready to use. I start with 1/2 tsp of salt, mix everything together, and then taste and salt to my liking!
- 1/2 cup mayo - you know I went with @dukes
- 1/3 cup ketchup
- 3 Tbsp of relish (I went with 2 Tbsp of dill relish & 1 Tbsp of sweet - but use what you prefer!)
- 1 Tbsp white wine vinegar
- 1/2 tsp to 1 tsp salt (start with a 1/2 tsp, mix everything together, and then taste and adjust with salt - I always add a little more!)
- 1 tsp onion powder
I've experimented with various burger sauces over time, and this recipe truly stands out for its versatility and balanced flavor. The combination of mayo and ketchup creates a creamy yet tangy base, while the mix of dill and sweet relish adds a nice texture and a touch of sweetness. The white wine vinegar brings a subtle acidity that brightens the sauce without overpowering it. From my experience, starting with half a teaspoon of salt and then adjusting after mixing helps avoid oversalting, ensuring the sauce complements rather than overwhelms your burger or sandwich. Adding onion powder adds a mellow, savory depth that enhances the overall profile. What I love about this sauce is that it’s not just limited to burgers. I've used it as a quick sandwich spread, and it pairs wonderfully with grilled chicken or turkey sandwiches. Recently, I tossed some into a pasta salad with fresh veggies, and it was an instant hit at a summer barbecue. This burger sauce keeps well in the fridge for several days, so it’s perfect to prepare ahead for meal prep or holiday cookouts. For those who enjoy experimenting, you can customize the relish combination—try swapping in sweet pickle relish or even a spicy version for a kick. Overall, this sauce is a summer staple for me, adding that “special something” that elevates even the simplest of burgers. Whether you’re grilling season favorites or just craving a flavorful dip, this homemade burger sauce recipe is a must-try.
