So I tried these yesterday. I tried the fries another day, and the fries were great? enough for 2, maybe 3 people. These smashed potatoes,.however...not much in the bag. Like literally majority of the bag was air. 😂😂 I say, get the fries...these are good in a pinch, but for the price...you should get a little more. At my Walmart, these are $4.98 a bag.

Like many of you, I'm always on the lookout for quick and delicious sides, especially from Walmart. The idea of perfectly seasoned, crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside smashed potatoes ready in minutes sounded like a dream.
When I first opened the bag, just like in my initial thoughts, I definitely noticed that famous 'air in the bag' phenomenon. It felt like there wasn't a huge amount of actual potato inside for the price point of $4.98. However, I was still excited to try them, especially with the promise of that rich Garlic Parmesan seasoning. The package also includes a little sachet of what they call 'Liquid Gold Butter, Olive Oil Premium Seasoning.' This liquid seasoning is what really coats the potatoes and gives them their flavor during cooking.
Preparation was pretty straightforward – I followed the instructions, roasting them until they were golden brown and slightly crispy. The aroma filling my kitchen was fantastic, truly smelling of garlic and Parmesan. Once they were done, I tossed them with the rest of the seasoning, just as suggested.
Taste-wise, they deliver on the flavor! The Garlic Parmesan is really prominent, savory and addictive. The potatoes themselves had a decent texture – some pieces got nice and crispy, while others remained soft and tender, exactly what you want from a good smashed potato. They definitely weren't bland.
Now, back to the quantity and value. While the taste is great, as I mentioned before, the portion size felt a bit small for the price, especially if you're feeding more than one person. For me, it felt like a single generous serving or a smaller side for two. If you're comparing them to Kinder's fries, which usually come in a more substantial bag, the smashed potatoes might leave you wanting more.
So, when would I recommend these? If you're looking for an incredibly convenient, flavorful side dish for one or a light two-person meal, and you don't mind the price, these fit the bill perfectly. They're excellent for those busy weeknights when you want something tasty without much fuss. To make them feel more substantial or stretch them further, I'd suggest pairing them with a hearty protein like roasted chicken or a juicy steak, and maybe adding a fresh green salad. You could even sprinkle some extra fresh Parmesan or chopped parsley on top for an added touch!
Compared to other frozen potato options out there, Kinder's Garlic Parmesan Smashed Potatoes stand out for their strong, authentic flavor. While Green Giant also offers smashed potatoes, Kinder's seems to nail that restaurant-quality seasoning. Just be prepared for a smaller portion. So, yes, they're good in a pinch, but I'd say if quantity is a big factor for you, their fries still offer more bang for your buck. But for pure, delicious Garlic Parmesan potato goodness, these are a treat!
