Descent through Egyptian lens

The ancient world did not fear descent.

It ritualized it.

Most modern collapse is uninitiated descent without a map. Comment “DUAT” if you feel like you’re walking through it. #duat #egypt #ancient #descent #spirituality

2/25 Edited to

... Read moreI’ve often found in my own life that moments of deep personal crisis mirror the concept of descent described in Egyptian spirituality. The ancient notion of the Duat as a place where the soul confronts fear, memory, and shadow instead of punishment really resonates with me. When we go through postpartum identity shifts or emotional upheaval, it can feel like entering an unknown, dark territory. Yet, like the Egyptians, I’ve learned that such descent isn’t about failing or collapsing but about facing inner truths and integrating fragmented parts of ourselves. One powerful takeaway from the Duat is the emphasis on Ma'at — truth, balance, and nervous-system coherence. I’ve found that during difficult phases, focusing on honest self-reflection and striving for internal equilibrium helps avoid descending into deeper fragmentation. The metaphor of the heart being weighed rather than performance means that authenticity matters far more than external achievements. In practical terms, this has meant allowing myself to feel grief, rage, or loss without rushing to 'fix' these feelings. Instead, I follow what the post suggests: "Follow the flame." This means tracking where my emotional energy leads, acknowledging it, and letting it teach me. Descent is then not a dark pit but a transformative path where integration happens in motion. This approach has changed how I view struggles—not as obstacles but as initiation rites that prepare me to rise stronger within my body and spirit. For anyone feeling lost during transitions like postpartum, personal loss, or major life changes, revisiting the Egyptian lens of descent offers hope. It reminds us that rising isn't about bypassing the hard stages but walking through them intentionally, balancing and integrating every part of our experience.
