When it rains like this, ordinary sidewalks may not solve the pedestrian problem, because if one day forgets to carry an umbrella, it is definitely wet, but if it is a Covered Walkway or a "covered walkway," it is better to answer the problem, because whether it is raining or sunny, it is easy to walk.
The Covered Walkway is one of the works from the 9-sided 9-D policy on "Good Travel" at the BMA. The Bureau of Public Works has been working with the UDDC to study and design covered pedestrian walkways to facilitate pedestrian traffic in all weather conditions and to be more convenient on foot to connect to public transport. This will be part of the city's traffic problems, with prototypes coming from Singapore and cities in Taiwan.
The first area of the Covered Walkway project in Bangkok is on South Sathorn Road, Lumbini MRT Station to Skywalk Channel Nontree, a total distance of 1.6 kilometers, a budget of 20,523,000 baht. Currently, the construction of a roof covering the sidewalk and lighting is expected to be completed by the end of September, and after that, the sidewalk will be renovated along with the conduit by the MEA and is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2025.
