Fear Is the Smokescreen

In my personal experience, I’ve noticed that fear can be a powerful tool to keep people distracted from the bigger picture. When communities are encouraged to focus their fear and suspicion on a particular group, like Muslims, it creates division and mistrust among neighbors. Meanwhile, critical changes happen quietly behind the scenes—laws get rewritten, freedoms subtly restricted, and power increasingly centralized in ways that many don’t notice until it’s too late. This strategy of distraction is not new, but it’s especially concerning when tied to Christian nationalism. By painting a fearful narrative, it encourages people to police each other rather than question those in power. From what I've seen in social movements and political discourse, this division weakens collective resistance and allows harmful policies to take root. Rejecting fear doesn’t mean ignoring threats, but rather asking critical questions and staying informed. It means protecting your neighbors and standing in solidarity despite differences, because unity is the antidote to this smokescreen of fear. Transparency, accountability, and awareness empower us to safeguard democratic principles and civil liberties. I’ve found it helpful to engage with diverse communities, seek out truth-driven sources, and participate in constructive dialogue. This approach builds trust and breaks down the walls fear tries to erect. In doing so, we reclaim our power from those who rely on division and distraction to control. Ultimately, our strength lies in standing united, protecting our rights, and speaking truth to power.
